On of them AI thingy-whatsits says that  An "addict" is a person unable to stop a behaviour or substance use, even when it causes harm.

Well my buying ever more bags of new shiny are preventing me from "finishing" and clearing the table I use for both painting and games and thus my addiction to buying and painting is preventing me from being addicted to games.

So its good innit?

Good point, well made.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

Am I an addict? Possibly, but I don't think so. Am I a collector? Most definitely.

I am acutely conscious of my age: I am due to retire in 2 years, 9 months. That (for those who are counting) is only 33 Pendraken ordering days before austerity sets in.

This sharpens one's focus somewhat. In that time, I intend to purchase 6 small Napoleonic armies (500 figures), Napoleonic train, plus Amazons, ancient Indians and whatever SF appears. This is do-able, but can I afford the purchase space to add another 350 Spaniards?

Also, Pendraken are bound to throw something else that I didn't know I needed into the mix.

I suppose It depends how big your pendraken orders are. Also can you Morph some of your armies into others bu additions of certain units or by changing standards?

My Dacian barbarian army is morphed into many other barbarian armies, by the addition of units like Chariots or slingers, more heavily armed men and the removal of Falxmen, changing of cavalry ratios etc. Mainly because I initially wanted to add an Ancient British army to my collection, and realised that the majority of the Dacians were incredibly similar to Celts/Gauls , particuarly as I had no intention of painting Checks on thier Trews opr cloaks. So I bought some Chariot Units, some slingers and some cavalry, a lot less expense, painting time and storage.

A man with a spear and shield in Trews and shirt is much the same as any other from a few hundred years BC to a few hundred years AD. Yous I know the shields might be different shapes, the spears might be longer , shorter or heavier...... But does it really matter?
Your opponent might complain that he cannopt tell which unit has javlins and which has long Spears, but your case your opponent is liekly to be accepting.

Thank you. I did contemplate that - there are a lot of white uniformed armies in the Napoleonic period.

But, (and apparently it's now OK to start sentences with a conjunction) I have decided to reconstruct the next project (Joseph's Spanish) from a "big" army to a "small" army. This saves 500 figures or so, which can go for the basis for the next project - probably the Italians. This brings the Napoleonic purchase plan (Saxons, Italians, Neapolitans, Badeners (?), Westphalians and Dutch-Belgians) to about 14-15 months.

This seems to be about right. "Big" nations (UK, France, Russia, Austria, Prussia, Spain) have "big" armies* of 1000 figures

"Small" nations have 500 figure armies - Joseph's Spanish, Brunswick 1815, Hanover 1815 and the projects.

Peninsula 1810 has a 1000 figure Anglo-Portuguese and a 1000 figure Franco-Allied army.

This does give me the option of expanding the forces that interest me after I have the basics. :)**

*So do Sweden, Denmark, Ottoman Empire, Bavaria, Wurttemberg and Dutch of Warsaw, but let's not talk about that.
**Granted, that is all of them.
