Storage Wars

As my armies continue to expand . Storage wars is always an ongoing campaign .

I have had the  good guys at Pendraken make me up some MDF trays to maximise the space in a 9 litre Really Useful Box.

They are 26mm deep externally, 24mm internally. A little bit of superglue later and my Zulu army fits in one box .

Looks like have space for a few more regiments too. I will then add some spacers to keep them in place - not sure I will magnetise these

But a great solution

Very nice :) . Commission Figurines do something similar too IIRC.

I think a few other sellers do to , but not to a size that maximises the boxes potential . Usually too much wasted height when you want to store 10mm ! . I am pleased with these

I could see thise being very popular  ;)

If these can be mailed, they need to go in the catalogue pronto!.

A little explainer showing them sat in a 4L and 9L box and they'll fly off the shelves.

fred.

They come as flat sheets of pre-cut MDF so are very postable

I'd like to see these from Pendraken

This is the real distinction for these.

I've seen competing offerings which all seemed a bit tall for my 10mm figures.

Some were also short on details like dimensions.

I think this can be a real winner:
 * Shallow enough for efficient packing in the 4L and 9L Really Useful Boxes.
 * A good "technical blurb" to explain their use and value proposition.
 * Extra credit if (I don't know whether this is practical) Heights can be custom varied.

I have my own storage solution based on pizza delivery boxes.
It expands to a few Really Useful Boxes for the taller (mostly fantasy) large scale figures.

It works well for bulk storage, but I wouldn't advocate it as a standard as it includes so many non-standard parts.
Mild steel inserts for the magnetic base.
Custom cut timber inserts to reinforce the cardboard sides.

So from my perspective, a RUB solution has many advantages, provided the inserts are:
 a) Fully described.
 b) Flexible to accommodate a range of sizes.

Flexible is particularly important.
There's a great height difference across 10mm, from partly crouching modern infantry to war elephants.

Thank you for reading this Sunday's ramble.

Warbases do full and half-sized RUB trays in 32mm, 43 and 66mm depths in their Accessories section.

They also do full and half-sized tray liners with an assortment of sizes of circular cut-outs, from 20mm to 40mm in diameter.

They've also been very good at supplying me with non-standard MDF bits on request. As have Pendraken, come to that.

The Commission figurines ones come in all sorts of depths, including some really shallow ones which are great for 10mm infantry (without flags or pikes), or deeper ones which are good for vehicles, or even deeper ones for cavalry with vertical lances.

The only problem is ordering as the website is super basic - and I first bought them at a show - I don't think I would have purchased them directly online.

Yes with 10mm it's all about eliminating that wasted head space . That's I I asked for these to be a certain height to maximise the storage in a 9 litre box . Pleased that I got my whole army into one with some expansion room . I need to get some for my ACW 10mm as they are on trays that are a little too deep at the moment and across 3 9 litre boxes it will increase storage by 20%

Last Hussar

Commission do various depths.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

I think the great thing about these are the fact that they have been customized to fit inside the really useful boxes. Plus, I assume you can vary the depth to accommodate taller figures - standard bearers, elephants, pikemen etc.

The website doesn't exist and the FB page was last updated in 2022 ? Are they still trading ?

fred.

I last ordered from Commission Figurines in Aug 2023. And have spotted on the emails we exchanged Walt was having website issues then.

This is the same company Last Hussar gets his flat Napoleonic's from - he may have had more recent contact?

I think all the manufacturers size them to the area and height of the RUBs.
