The Partly filled Storage box Conundrum

Do you:o you have got painted and based the figures for an army and fond a storage box , in my case a really useful box.
You put your army away. You fill one box and then only partly fill the next.

I'd need a bit more context to pick an answer.

My own storage is mainly 40cm2 x 4cm deep pizza boxes.
These have a mild steel plate glued to their base, and wooden spacers added to support stacks up to six deep.

They're great for all my 10mm needs.
Also most 15mm, except those with pikes, vertical lances, elephants and other big fantasy creatures.
The big 15mm stuff goes into 4 litre really useful boxes (also with a mild steel base).

I attempt to keep 1 or 2 whole armies in each box.
Sometimes an army spans a pizza box and part of a really useful box.
I don't yet have any armies that require more than one pizza box.

There are significant gaps in some pizza boxes.
I plan to fill these with one of:
 * Another small army.
 * Generic accessories: transport, civilians and small terrain features.
 * Game aids: Templates, status tokens ...

I use RUB 4 and 9 l boxes. A medium army will go in a 4l and a big army will go into a 9l. I add a shelf so I can double deep the boxes.

I can't find RUB 9 and 4 litre boxes anymore, nor the 3x5 trays.  Hobbycraft do do a 'own brand' which fits the trays, and Walter at Commission does trays, so not the end of the world.

THe Range dont RUB, but have lots of other storage boxes in different sizes. Most of my stuff being 6mm I have loads of the A4 compartmented boxes Home and Bargin used to do - these also take 15mm and 28mm infantry. Also the plastic boxes from Poundland no longer there.

Years ago I was fortunate enough to acquire a lot of file boxes that were being replaced by our then Paperkeepers (Records Management in today's parlance).

They are essentially 35cm x 23cm x 8cm, although back in the day they were intended for foolscap files. The lid hinges along one of the long edges and the opposite side drops down. They comfortably accommodate two of the 35mm deep MDF trays sold by Commission Figurines for use with the RUB boxes, although I do have to plane down the protruding lip on the short sides.

Be patient, just wait. Sooner or later I will buy more stuff and fill the space!
