I'm going to try and get myself to a local Hardware shop on the High Street (Ashco, for those who know) who sell all sorts of things - If there is one place that will sell small card packs it will be there.

I can feel the slog of painting being required  :'(  My short term aim is to get up to 20 Pike and 40 Musket stands (I'll have to do both sides), then start expanding on that. However as I keep forgetting, I do have some 25mm (PROPER 25 mil), so will be looking to see if I have enough there.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

You can buy blank playing cards quite easily on-line.

Mine are by the firm Bicycle and are a good quality.

Why would I buy blanks? Is there an advantage,  given I'd have to print them?

I might make some chits on paper, laminate them before cutting.

Google "Miniature Playing Cards" you'll be overwhelmed by the choice available. They are popular presents for children, so quite affordable. I have at least a dozen packs, so I can give 80 card sets to each player in a 6 player game. In the great scheme of gaming, it is an insignificant cost. One word of advice though, you'll want to buy them in pairs with different back designs, otherwise the chance of confusion is considerable!

You never had a reply.  I also have a set that I have not yet used.  There are some good review and battle reports on it here :

Well spotted.  Our club did not like Twilight when they tried it and were lukewarm about IDV so I shall be interested to learn how you get on with the different rules and what your preference is ... and, of course, why.

Also reactivating a unit - It seems to read you can activate A, then B, then go back to A. Have I misread that?
No if like TtS you can jump beck and forth between units in the same command

Scourge of Princes is supposed to cover this period.  Anyone tried them and have a view about them for the ECW?

T13A

Hi

I have Scourge of Princes; only played them once so far. Well written as I have come to expect from Sam Mustafa, but overall rather underwhelmed by them. I got the distinct impression that the ECW was an afterthought e.g. 'hedges' don't get a mention in the rules or regiments of foot with varied musket/pike ratios. Just my tuppence worth.

Cheers Paul

Is this the new set from Sam? If so I've had a flick through of a copy that one of my gaming group has, didn't realise they went as late as ECW.

Yes, this is the second time I have been a member of Aylesbury Wargames Club. So they have let me in twice - Does this make them twice as strange?

I have only played it once and I thought positively of it for the ITW battle we fought; although there are still some changes I would be considering.

I have heard it suggested that ECW as a period was an afterthought so it is really geared for sixteenth century warfare, not seventeenth century; better after some adjustments.

Is this the new set from Sam? If so I've had a flick through of a copy that one of my gaming group has, didn't realise they went as late as ECW.

Yes, his normal style so it depends on your views on his previous rules.  The one key point is they are games playable in a reasonable period.

I have been looking for the a good set of rules for Italian Wars.

I started with WRG Gush 2nd edition. Played ok if you had plenty of time.Very dated now though

I have tried REG several times , and while it gives a good game for later periods, it seems to lack something for The Italian Wars. Pike seem immune to everything apart from another pike block. Even two batteries of guns is unlikely to stop it.

I Tried Furioso, and they had to be virtually rewritten, as so many errors and inconsistencies

I have tried Scourge of Princes twice and the jury is still out for Italian wars. They were also a bit expensive at £27 for a 117 page PDF or £37 for an actual printed set.

So I am open to recommendations

And I have heard that FURIOSO is brilliant for it and was thinking of trying them out, yet you indicate a poor view of them.  A typical spread of opinion!  :D
