Quote from: Raider4 on 27 July 2023, 08:40:54 PMHmmm . . . thought the Mk.2, Mk.3 and Mk.5 were all production versions, and served in the frontline? Every mark later is an upgrade of one of these.

Sort of, 50 Mk 2 for trials Mk 3 production, Mk 5 main version...

Hi

When I first joined my squadron (Ajax, 2RTR, Münster) in September 1974 I'm pretty sure we had a mixture of Chieftain Mk2's and Mk3's (and a Centurion ARV in the Light Aid Detachment)! The Mk2's I seem to remember were fairly quickly replaced with up graded models but I'm pretty sure the Mk3's were with us for some time.

Cheers Paul

:-bd  But need the FV432 with the Fox turret for that mind.

QuoteLooking good - fully embracing 3D printed vehicle masters, I see. Makes a lot of sense for vehicles where there are known measurements and variants can be pretty easily created from the base model.

It's definitely a much easier route to new masters, we can resize if needed, tweak them if we want, and print replacements if there's any problems during moulding. There is a cost implication though, these new 3D designs are coming in at 30%-50% more expensive than our traditional modellers.

16 different FV432s and of course we're missing one!  It shouldn't be too hard to add that turret though, so we'll have a chat with the designer.  Does anyone know if that turret was put on the Mk 1 or the Mk 2-1 hull?

Mk 1 Hulls as far as I can remember, 2LI had them in 74/5 when I did a 2 week attatchment.

True - but Leon does the Fox - so a pretty straight forward conversion (I suspect)  :)

That's what I thought, but I couldn't find the Fox on the website?

The Chieftain Mk.1 and Mk.2 are getting mixed up.
Production numbers are:
40x Mk.1
300+ x Mk.2 (1967)
500+ x Mk.3 (1970)
2x Mk.4 for Israel (1974)
100x Mk.5 (1973)
Mk.6 are Mk.2 rebuilt to Mk.5 standard, so ~ 300 (c1978) with IINF in theory
Mk.7 are Mk.3 rebuilt to Mk.6 standard, so anything from a few-500 (c1979 with IINF)
Mk.8 is a Mk.5 with minor upgrades, so maybe 100 (c1979)
Mk.6, 7 and 8 were all upgraded to Mk.9 from 1983, so from 400 to 900, with FSAPDS.
Mk.10 Stiibrew I haven't found conversion numbers (1987)
Mk.11 Stillbrew x324 converted (from 1987)

I think I might have misled you ... apologies ... I'm not sure the Fox has appeared in the range yet.
