Austrian Infantry Brigades 1809

Hi

Can anybody please tell me whether German and Hungarian Battalions operated in mixed brigades in the 1809 campaign or were they each in their own respective brigades?

Not sure about 1809, but when I looked at 1813 there weren't any mixed brigades at Leipzig.

Thanks for that. Having read about some language difficulties I had a feeling they would not be mixed. I must admit I have the
Leipzig book from Nafziger, but didn't think to look there. Doh!

1809 tended to be brigaded as Hungarian brigades, or German brigades, but mixed Divisions existed -eg at Eggmuhl -Div von Lindenau had Rohan Regt #50 (German) attached from Vecesey's Bde, and von Mayer's Bde  with Stain Regt #50 (German)  and Reinhard's Bde with Hiller Regt #2 and Sztarrai Regt #33 (both Hungarian).

Regiments tended to get cross attached as circumstances dictated.

Hiller and Sztarrai were still brigaded together at Aspern but were in a division with Czartoryski #9 and Reuss-Greitz #55 (both German).

I think there were some mixed divisions if not brigades on the Italian front as well.

There is a mixed Division at Leipzig. 3rd Corps, 2nd Division. 1 Brigade 'German' and 1 Brigade 'Hungarian'

In April 1809 Jellacic's Division (which was detached) had Ettingshausen's Brigade with IR.32 (Esterhazy) which was Hungarian and IR.45 (De Vaux) which was German.
