Shane McGowan has just been announced. Going to make 'Fairytale of New York' a hard listen next week.

It always was since Kirsty MacColl died.  McGowan was always on borrowed time, MacColl's death was just so unexpected, and unfair.

Yes, the Mexican authorities seemed as corrupt as ever they were - no surprise there I think.  It was still unexpected and a shock when it happened.

It is estimated that cats kill billions of birds and small animals worldwide, every year. As if humanity wasn't already making enough of an effort to wipe them out! Not sure that quite fits the Deaths in 2023 thread though? Perhaps the Country File one instead?
