QuoteAll excellent guesses, but not Gettysburg, rather more obscure.

I'm thinking quite new; "idjits" makes me think 90s onwards. John Wayne never said "idjits".

Hmmm ... Silverado, Young Guns or the Boring Film With Someone Got Shot by Someone Else and Nobody Would have Watched it if it Didn't Have Brad Pitt in it?

Alternatively Glory but "idjits" doesn't sound right for Glory.

3:10 to Yuma Christian Bale to Russell Crowe (Crowe doesn't have the vocal range to say "idjits".)

Orrr ... The Siege of Jadotville 'cos they're Irish and would say "idjits". Good film BTW.

Quite right fsn, my one was indeed Serenity.

Back when I played EVE Online my most used Serenity quote was "Target the Reavers. Target the Reavers! Target everyone! Somebody fire!"

John Cook

Quote from: fsn on 29 October 2022, 01:04:32 PMIt is R Lee Ermey.

It's Full Metal Jacket.

It is indeed.  So is 'Five foot nine? I didn't know....'. Full quote 'Five foot nine? I didn't know they stacked s**t that high'.  One of the best Vietnam flims in my view.

'It wouldn't hurt Sir' - Bridge too Far.  A good movie that could have been great but didn't quite make it, I think.

You're awfully good at this Mr Cook.

I just love movies, especially westerns and war/military movies.  I think I know the entire script for Zulu, such that I could probably play every part if they ever do it on radio.

John Cook

Try this one from one of my favourite films, a stunning military drama.  A clue - it's being said to a young naval officer.

"What I do want is for you to stand there in that faggoty white uniform and with your Harvard mouth extend me some f*****g courtesy. You gotta ask me nicely."

fsn

"Faggoty white uniform" make me think US Navy.  :)

Obvious first choice is Top Gun or Officer and a Gentleman. Don't remember it in the first, never watched the second, definitely US Naval flyer vibe.

Confrontational so suggests inter-service rivalry - lets out "Flight of the Intruder". Could be "Behind Enemy Lines"? I could hear Gene Hackman saying it, but he was in the Navy in that film.

Or is it WWII? Pearl Harbour?

Dunno. Give up.

I'm guessing "A Few Good Men"

Oh hang on! Mr Cook is being a bit clever. "Military drama". Mayhap not a "War" film, but one in a military setting - like The Presidio or The General's Daughter.

Courage Under Fire wasn't Navy so A Few Good men then? Sounds like Jack Nicholson to Tom Cruise.

Well, it sounds like something B*11 Clinton might have said, but I'm not sure about any war movie connection 😉
