The royal army had bad omens, so King Artaxerxes lost valuable time sacrificing, which allowed the rebels to take the village.
In picture ii, the Sakae attacked the pretender's light horse. Of course, having numbers and quality in my favour, I was driven off with serious losses.

The Arachosian light horse drove in the Cretans, but the Great King panicked and fled with the nobles in the face of a hoplite charge, hard pressed by his brother. Oh, the shame.

Fortunately, the massed levy bows did something for a change; the impetuous rebel horse were shot up and routed, leaving Cyrus dead on the field. The Greeks fought hard, but could not go it alone, and were compelled to follow their demoralised Asian comrades off the field. The royal army was no better off, however.
Battle two will require the Greeks, now a bit depleted, to fight their way out of the Persian heartlands in a "Get the column off the table" colonial-type scenario. Don't miss the next episode.
