According to wikipedia (so it must be true)
Songkran occurs at the same time as that given by Bede for festivals of Eostre
[In a tract explaining how the timing of Pagan Eostre is subtly different from the Christian Easter]

Which I think justifies me fielding Thai elephants in my Anglo-Saxon armies through the exchange program. 

perhaps one day our illustrious leader will produce some eastern enemies for those mongols.
