I'm ready for winter to be over - rant!

I live in North Texas and we get snow and ice at least once each winter, so I'm used to the cold and miserable conditions. As fate would have it, North Texas is also hosting the NFL Super Bowl this year. So wouldn't you know it, the worst ice storm in decades hits the same week as the Super Bowl.

Now that is not the purpose of my rant. The local governments have done a good job making sure the roads are clear for the Packers and Steelers to get where they need to go. Which means all the sand trucks and other clearing equipment normally used to clear the side streets are dedicated to making sure the teams get to their practice facilities and the Death Star (Cowboys Stadium).

That's not the purpose of my rant, either. Schools have been closed for the past three days and are going to be closed tomorrow. Which means additional days will be added to the end of the school year in order to make up for the lost days. My daughter has been home from school for four days and has been loving it. My wife and I have been stuck in the house, although I did venture out to go to my office today. The added days to the end of the year means we will have to change our vacation plans to Florida. Good thing we haven't purchased the plane tickets yet.

Still, that's not the purpose of my rant. Since I couldn't get out to go to work I've been working from home, which means my company doesn't have to pay for phone service, heating, office supplies, etc. I have to deal with my wife and daughter interrupting me as I work. I was able to brave the icy streets today and went to the office just to get out of the house.

Again, not the purpose of my rant. The extreme cold has also meant that there are rolling power outages. Because the electricity usage is peaking and a number of generation plants went off-line due to the inability to get natural gas (all the generators seem to need it at the same time), the power companies have instituted rolling blackouts. Luckily we haven't been affected, YET.

Yet again, that's not the purpose of my rant.

No, something more annoying is causing me problems.

Essentially, I've failed to plan ahead for just such a weather emergency.

I have no more primed figures to paint!

Yes, I was stupid and decided a few months back to only prime the next set of figures to paint. As of 30 minutes ago I finished painting a unit of AWI Continentals. I primed them for painting last Friday (back with it was a nice 60 degrees F). I've been setting up a unit to paint, prime it, paint it to a certain point (usually when I have about another hour to finish), then get the next unit ready.

I have all this time at home where I could be cranking out AWI units. But instead it's so cold here I don't dare risk spraying the figures outside. I shudder to think what would happen when spray primer meets 15 degree F temperature.

So, I will finish basing my new Continental unit and maybe take pictures of it to enter into the painting competition but I'm bummed that I have nothing else to paint.

Oh, and we're expecting snow tonight and tomorrow morning.

get some brush on primer Vallejo do black grey and white and works a treat for those, too bad outside moments. Hope the weather turns for you soon

If your desperate, you could put your figures in the bottom of a decent sized cardboard box and spray them indoors.  Do it somewhere well ventilated as it may be a bit smelly.
Have you seen the rivets on that?
