In this day and age, when each new rules set needs a certain something, I needed a jump gate for Billion Suns, as I have loads to ships, but all come with their own hyperdrives.
So, there I was helping my youngest daughter to assemble her robot-table-vacuum-cleaner-thing she got for her birthday, when we found we had a sprue frame of transparent day-glo green left over.
Plus a bit of flash/tab from a Forge World resin casting.
A pin, a base, a bit of dayglo green paint and an 'ACME' sign:- One jump gate!
The flash from the Forgeworld tag, with a bit of milliputt, made a perfect counterweight/powercell for the gate.

Cheap, cheerful, and very very bright green! No way you can miss this in deep space!

Plug it into the mains and you're all set :D

Looks good to me.

For God's sake, don't turn it on! This thing has never been tested; we have no idea what it might do!

I thought to myself, that is assuredly a jump gate, or maybe the entrance to a car wash.
Encumbered by Idjits, we pressed on

Won't do to make first contact in a dirty starship.

Add sprinklers and youd get a clean one, nice idea.

Certainly is ! :)

I wonder what would happen if you put a short length of optic fibre into the base, and gave it a light source...would the whole 'gate' glow ?

Many, MANY moons ago, I drilled out a sci-fi gun on a 30mm model, and popped a bit of fibre into that....it worked OK, for a photo....If I tried that again, I'd get a cheapo laser, and use that instead of a torch bulb.
