Shipping to the EU

As a expat gamer in Portugal, a very lonely one as there are no other gamers near me, is Pendraken going to join the IOSS as Baccus has done.

It's a Tax at source scheme and looks very good as delays, taxes in country and handling fees are quite stupid sometimes.

I understand your shipping rates may have to go up slightly but the benifit in ease and shipping time are well worth it......Leon?

We're currently exploring the options and waiting on an update from our new website company as well, so I'm hoping to have some news soon.

Annoyingly UK companies aren't allowed to sign up for IOSS themselves, we have to go through an intermediary, which sadly costs a lot of money.  Deloitte are at least £2000 per year, Avalara £2500 per year, or Taxamo at £2 per package.  We sent around 1500 packages to the EU in 2020 so the £2000 per year would seem the best value-for-money, but we've heard that the UK government will be bringing their own system online in the next few months, so we don't want to pay out a large chunk of money for only a couple of months' worth of use.

So, we're currently looking at Taxamo as a short-term option, but we need the website company to release their upgrade first, so that we can charge EU customers the correct VAT level for their country.

Just to add further confusion to the situation, a lot of EU countries are randomly adding extra fees and charges even when IOSS was used.  One of the other manufacturers put together a handy list here: https://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/info-eu-norway

I'll bet someone in government is rubbing their hands in glee, with shares in one of those companies, and the stupidity of the uninformed allowing them to get away with this shambles. I am seriously looking at curtailing all my UK purchases.

This, as I understand, it is all part of the EU's new VAT collection regime.

In a recently published paper by Liverpool Uni, (Institute of Irish Studies) it was found that 30+ GB companies are  registering/re-locating to N Ireland which - despite still part of the UK - remains with unique pre-Brexit free trade access into both EU and GB markets.

Its been a while since we had a N Ireland wargame manufacturer - older gamers will remember Freikorps (15mm) now with QRF. There was also a 25mm Modern range of chunky figures which I can't remember

Who knows, this unique trade  access to the Single Market may well see a revival of N Ireland wargaming industry - ahh if I was 30 years younger!

They're currently up for sale, Tony at ERM is retiring and the full Platoon 20 ranges are available at the moment.

For a few years in the 1980s I was a part-time caster for Norman and Cameron Robinson of Model Figures and Hobbies, owner of FK15 and P20 ranges, ladling hot metal into spinnng moulds in an old cattle shed near Groomsport.

I shudder to think what any Health and Safety rep would have made of the setup.

Cameron was  some criac. I recall sunny afternoons and chilled beer in that cattle shed on Lower Balloo Road.  You got a discount if you agreed to become an ACW reenactor.

We should have tried to get Leon to move over here rather than their new premises! ;) Maybe a subsidiary for EU shipping? What would a baby Pendraken be called? Pendrake?
