Today I led late imperial Romans against Goths and Alans. A hard fight, with some dismal luck on both sides, but an eventual clear victory for the bad guys. Fortunate; Lee's been quietly racking up victories this last fortnight.

Some more. I do have oval shielded Palatine legionary types too, but they didn't do much today.

And again. Noteworthy features: light cavalry operating together carefully can make hash of heavier stuff; legionaries are not ideally suited to fight an enemy like this, being armed and trained to win a stand-up fight against heavy foot, which are not the strong suit of a Gothic army; and I should never get into a cavalry scrap against Lee, even with a deeper, better equipped formation of higher quality led by a general - I just get bogged down. Thank heavens our Frankish and Byzantine allies turned up in time!
