First run with the Twilight rules for me. Some interesting concepts. Full report and my perceptions here:

Somewhat barebones approach to try them out with unpainted 2mm figures.and a small game.

Thanks for the AAR and your views on the rules Matthew :). I like the idea of the morale part of the game, as it's a neat idea and seems to have a lot of potential. The use of small forces to get to grips with the rules if a great way to go, plus the advantage of the 2mm forces is that they can work from the TYW through to the GNW, if you're not too fussed about pike to shot ratios etc.

Yes indeed, it's a nice way to model the "pressures" of battle. I'd originally got these 2mm pieces to make a "board game sized" FK&P battle set, which I may still do, but they work well for testing this also. As there was a lot more variety of unit types in the 30YW I'll likely do bigger bases with a few different units on it when it comes to them. And of course, that LoA range is looking more and more appealing...  :-\

The LoA range is superb! I've just ordered Beneath the Lily Banners 3rd Edition with the aim to fight some Williamite Wars using these figures. I haven't decided upon basing yet and will wait until the book arrives, before doing some testing.

I'll be interested in your thoughts as it's a ruleset I'd considered as well. When I get to it I'd like to do them as a single base per unit, which Twilight supports (with the odd marker needed for formation indications) as I like the aesthetic and less faff moving multiple pieces. Not sure if lily banners needs multi bases though or would support single. Most rules can be fudged to allow it.

From the AARs I've seen so far Matthew, all that is important is knowing whether a unit is in column of march or line, as this influences movement and you don't want your infantry caught in column by cavalry.

Yeah, Twilight is much the same, and easy to represent with a single based set of figures by rotating them into a side shuffle and maybe sticking a triangular base with a marching figure on the end to indicate the direction of movement.

Good stuff. Glad you managed a quick run through so soon. Far more organised than me!
Sounds like it went okay.
Nick was very helpful sorting me out when I probably messed up river crossings.
Thanks for the heads up on the io group which I had managed to ignore completely to this point :-[
Looking forward to your other adventures in this and the LoA period.

Yes the group is well worth joining, seems fairly active and Nick is very helpful. Always good to have a supportive author and community.

I hope to get another small test game on the go again soon.
