I've resumed painting my 10mm stuff (after a very long break!)

Cheers Steve. A bit of both really. Had enough of doing 28mm Romans for the moment, and am now between jobs...
My eyesight's not as good as it used to be though, so may need to up the magnifiaction on the optivisor!

Good luck on the job hunt, if that's what you're doing at the mo', Dave.

If you up the 'mag' on the optivisor......Whatever you do don't go up to the 5X.....You'll end up with a blinding headache, unless you're painting something completely flat.....Like a piece of paper !

The depth of field on that 'mag' is so miniscule, virtually everything on a model is a horrid blur, apart from something like the nose on the model.

Currently on 1.2X, so will try the 1.8X instead. Mine is a cheapo headband thing, rather than a proper Optivisor, and goes up to 3.5X, but can combine 2 lenses for greater magnification.

May also need to get my eyes checked again - I'm at the age where the long-sighted-ness seems to be constantly changing!

I like doing the Russian stuff, as they are lot simpler than the German - no camo patterns to worry about, and you can have whatever you like on the turrent/hull for unit markings

Humbrol Grey primer; Vallejo Russian Green; inked with Army Painter Green; maybe a highlight of Russian Green; drybrush with Vallejo Brown Sand, mostly on the lower bits for mud etc; Humbrol gloss varnish then apply decals; 1 coat of Valljo matt varhish; dry brush with Vallejo Iraqi Sand; 2 more coats of matt varnish.
Tracks: Thinned black, then the Vallejo Oily Steel; then a wash with heavy diluted Windsor and Newton India Ink

Am thinking of trying the Vallejo Decal Fix and Medium - anyone have any experience of these?

Well, your system certainly works.  Highlighting can be over-done but you've really cracked it.  I empathise with the eyesight thing.  My 73 year old eyes are not what they were and I've tried all solutions.  I've found that the off-the-shelf reading glasses work best for me.  I have three pairs, a 1x a 2x and 4x.  2x is the most useful.  4x and you end up trying to paint stuff that isn't even there!  They cost about £12 to £15 here in UK.  If you haven't tried them already, give them a go.

Eastern Front:

• winter Russian troops, German troops and armour;
• finish the remaining summer infantry for both sides;
• touch up a lot of the summer vehicles, as I de-based them all a wile ago and the trackes/wheels need attention
• build and paint some 1/144 armour kits
