Late Republic shields may have been colour coded by cohort, Late Empire shields are a variety of colours. Those Early/ Mid Imperial shields we have found are all, or at least mainly red but I'm not convinced that means they all were. The Dura Europos shields are very fancy and may have been parade rather than field issue .... or may not

Did you have to cut out a hole for the shield boss(es) in the transfers (?), Will ?
With luck, I might have time to get the paints out again, soon.....and I've fancied having a go at some of these chaps.
