Enjoyed reading that. Looked like a good game.
I have just bought a copy of the new Soldiers of Rome version - mainly because I love Warwick Kinrade's battlegroup Rules for WW2. I am guessing the basic mechanics will be similar to Soldiers of God.

Glad you enjoyed it, I hope you report back on how you find Soldiers of Rome!

I hadn't realised there was a Roman one out, very interesting. Did a bit of a Google and looks to be much the same style of system. One of the benefits of it is that unlike a lot of generic systems, you really do get the full character of the armies it focuses on because it doesn't have to try and be everything to everyone.

I've still to try out the smaller raid style battles and the big seiges, I'm tempted to try out the campaign system in it for a full flavour of things.

Soldiers of God are a good set of rules for the Crusades, I've used a variation for Mongols vs Russians. I have also used the mechanics to create a Middle Earth ruleset.

I've got Soldiers of Rome, but haven't played it yet, but it looks good to me, especially the Parthian army.

Yes I've enjoyed your reports on the middle earth adaption. I take it out follows a similar style of army design to the Crusades?
