Miniatures - mid 1970s with Featherstone's rules from Wargames and Airfix ACW.
Roleplaying Games - 1977 with Dungeons & Dragons
Boardgames - first serious board wargame I got was Squad Leader in around 78-79.

Shecky

I started with boardgames around 1977 or so. At that time they cost around $12-15. I earned $10 a week for mowing my neighbor's lawn and I distinctly remember pushing the mower and thinking how my work would translate into boardgames.
I began miniatures in 1984 when I saw an article in the local paper about a new game store. They had a picture of a Napoleonic game in the article. So the first chance I got I went to the store, watched some guys playing a game, bought some Napoleonics and never looked back. I sold those badly painted figures about 2 years later to finance an ACW army. I sold those two years ago to pay for 10mm armies!

See - my wargames based economy post has precedent.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.
