Preparing for a Maurice campaign

Unfortunately about 30% of my SYW collection is not Pendraken, so I have placed this thread here as some of the expansion will use Old Glory figures. This expansion came about because members of the club enjoyed a couple of Maurice games I put on and asked for a campaign. Although I had two armies available, Prussia and Austria, the Prussians were rather short on a number of troops, particularly cavalry, garrison battalions and Freikorps, and even the Austrians were short on hussars. I started the expansion with a unit of Old Glory Prussian 5th Hussars.





Different sources give different interpretations of the uniforms and in this case I mostly went with Funken and the pragmatic approach of not trying to put too much detail on.

I've played Maurice once, I did like it but my opponent at the time was a bit gamey so we didn't really investigate it too much. May well have to have another go. Just need a willing victim ....

We played 4-5 games, but found some of the victory conditions and mechanics made it very hard for the Attacker to win, IIRC. It promised a lot but sadly failed to deliver. The campaign rules were good from memory.

I agree that the attacker has a very hard time. Consequently a couple of tweaks have been made.

1. The objective becomes a bonus if taken by the attacker, but does not determine the winner - no automatic win for the defender who puts an objective in a BUA far to the rear.

2. Try sticking to contemporary tactics, ie if attacking deliver plenty of volleys before going in and make sure you have  plenty of support.

As the campaign unfolds I will report on any other tweaks we might come up with, such as random placement of the objective between the lines.
