Guys help me out!

I just now woke up to the fact that damn, is it just because I've been working at this non-stop and exhausted or is this really hard on eyes?

Do I need to unite some grass and snow plots into bigger ones as the detail really makes my eyes bleed. What do you think? HALP!!!11

It does look rather busy in the photos.

My first thought would be to increase the size of the grass areas.

Perhaps join up some of the smaller snow areas together. But I think I would do the grass first.

I suppose start on one zone first to see how it goes.

Perhaps get some figures on the table, and see how they look. Sometimes tables that look busy on their own work fine when playing, as at the minute all you are seeing is the base table, which isn't how it will look when playing.

Joining some of them up would make sense, be less "bitty". Maybe pick a few areas like Fred said and make larger patches so it flows together. If you think about natural landscapes features, they tend to flow from denser to sparser rather than be in scattered piles. You may find doing a few denser areas will make the scattered areas look more like a natural progression of the landscape.

The underlying board is spectacular, so can see why you want to get the flock just right!

Just take a bit of time away from it, Atte. :)

Have break...and come back refreshed.

Like fred (Forbes) says.....It does look a bit 'busy', in the photos', at the moment....just try one zone, to start with....Don't rush it.....Just to get it finished.

Like mmcv says.......The underlying board is spectacular.

Don't rush it, at this point !!

Too busy and bitty for me, but as others say, take a break, then put some figures on the table, which will tell you whether it works or not.

Thank you gentlemen for the support,

I'm so sorry this turned out this way, I really could not see the forest for the trees...

I used all the snow I had left to unite some of the piles, and went on to unite plots of grass aswell. In essence I wanted as little as possible flock on the board so that the miniatures could stand on the "even" ground, well that is no longer the case.

Now that I look at it after some CPR. All there is left to do to save this project from ending up in the nearest trash bin, is to add trees. A lot of trees to help ones eyes to adjust on the map from afar.

At first I wanted to make a lot of scatter terrain to be able to shuffle the map a bit, but I'm pretty confident that I will have to glue trees on the map.

Also I guess the borders for each area made me blind, I should've stepped out and really put some more thought on the overall feel.

I just listened to this Linking Park song and thought it fit spot on.

"I tried so hard, and got so far
But, in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall, to lose it all
But, in the end, it doesn't even matter"

mmcv

I'm sure it'll turn out well in the end!

Could make some groups of blast craters as scatter terrain to add as the game goes on, which might break things up a bit more by covering areas of scattered flock and adding a sense of ongoing devastation as the war progresses.

Take some time away and come back to it with fresh eyes

Phew!

Thank you guys for pointing out that I needed to have time off, I'm feeling better about the project already.

Those blast craters sound like a great idea Mmcv, I'll definately work something like that out! And ruined countryside buildings could lift up the feel too?

So yeah, the flock clusters are now united and fixed a bit, It still feels a bit busy. But it does look quite okay in real life, and neighbour said it looks good as a northern european "first snow" type of scenery. But! Should I actually flock most of the terrain in grass, and form paths from the base ground? What do you guys think?

I'm still working on adding all the bushes, but now I've glued all my 200 china trees (Scavenged those from the Hex terrain system, going to rework that into totally different type of game. Maybe just 6mm wargame using Baccus miniatures?). With the Trees added, the ground contrast wont blow your brain out anymore. Atleast in the 4d view.

When I get all bushes added, I'll show you guys how the game board would look after a few turns. When some miniatures have hit the field. Larger miniatures already fill a huge chunk of a plot.

EDIT1: Also with some scatter terrain pieces added like Mmcv suggested, those would deny the demonic effect of the groundwork further by adding more dimesion to the board.

That looks great Atte! Think the merging and extra terrain really brings it together. I guess at this point you just have a play some games on it and see how it feels. If you keep "poking" at it you'll risk cluttering things and you may find with some figures in play it's just right. There's lovely texture on the underlying board so don't want to cover it all!

Steve J

That really works well with everything on the board 8).

fred.

That looks really good now.

As mmcv says, stop now. Play some games then decide if you need to do more.
