Thinking About FPW

I failed my will roll over the weekend, and have ordered some French and Prussians.  Since I am a demanding and picky person (and I don't have a rules project at the moment) I have started a blog to capture my thoughts (if you can call them that) on the subject.

Re rules; the problem with the hyphenated wars IMHO, is that most rule sets fail to capture the Rock, Scissors, Paper nature of the conflict;
1866 - excellent Austrian artillery, excellent light cavalry (esp 1st Div) but poor infantry doctrine and a slow firing weapon vs poor Prussian artillery, badly mishandled cavalry but excellent infantry doctrine and of course, the needlegun.
For me only Field of Battle (Piquet) captures this imbalance, also, because it is card driven (or lack of card un-driven if you know what I mean) players really do have to think about what they are doing. The last minute 'divisional bodyswerve' or reflex 'wheel 'n fire' possible in most rule sets simply doesn't happen in FOB.
