That's a high price for a patch! Must admit though, i had a weekend job with a trader in old toys when i was in school, you know the rare old toys, not the rubbish old stuff, so i'm not that amazed by high prices for collectables. All about finding the right person for what you have for sale.

Actually that's one of the things i like about this hobby. You can go to your computer to search for some detail when you are painting or planning an army/game, and stand up 2 hours later, with a lot of interesting data that you probably don't need for the project. Just looking into it is half of the fun anyway!

Must admit i have a few things lying around the house as well. Have my grandfathers gas mask from 1939 in my bookcase, and a bunch of medals. Have sold a lot of the stuff i had a while ago though.

Still bummed i sold my iron cross!!!!!

Careful with the gas mask,, an awful lot conatin asbestos, and as the rubber perishes, the toxic fibres escape.

Yes! Please! Do not wear the gas mask!

My Dad and my brother both died from asbestos related cancer and I would not wish their kind of death on anyone. Do not tamper with it, keep it sealed and if you are thinking of removing it, arrange for a specialist asbestos removal company to deal with it. Insidious stuff!  >:(

Terry, looks like there was quite some variation. It certainly was different from today. We are so used to everything being mass produced, really shows  it was a different age!

Back in the 1980's I used to colour match dye lots in a clothing factory, there were variations then. Each sample was compared to a "standard" and were passed or sent back for rework, the sample was then added to a card with all the samples on and it was only looking at the samples over a few months you realised how great the variation was.
This was for customers who had a reputation for quality.

Coupled with these variations and the subsequent storage conditions, wear, washing and further treatments, anti gas or water proofing will affect the colour so don't get hung up on exact shades.

No worries, the gas mask is sealed in its canister.

It'w also a civilian anti air raid gas mask, distributed by the government. Not military grade. Don't know if that makes any difference though. will check it out.

Started on nr 8, the marauder warband for deadzone, and was planning to take 2 special characters i had lying around into the painting line. However i soon became bored of switching colours, and it was slowing me down, so i decided to get them over with first!

also have a definite number, with the special characters included this force is 13 models (i have painted the vehicles and ripper suits last year)
