Incidently, I'm not sure that I counted correctly - I seem to be seeing only two calvary and one infantry (supported by a gun) on the Imperial side. Also, to the west of the farthest copse of trees there appears to be an overturned gun. Is any of this correct?

Yes, thanks, this last picture (from what in sports is called "reverse angle") and your scenario description made it much easier to see what was happening. Incidently, I figured out that what I took to be an "overturned gun" was actually a shrub. So - from one senile duffer to another...
