So the company I work for has  an employee survey, that is supposed to anonymous.   However you are encouraged to explain your answers and these comments are put on the report to the managers word for word.  As I work in a small team it does not take a genius to work out the likely person for any particular comment.

The answers have to be chosen from a list of

Strongly agree
Agree
Neither agree or disagree
Disagree
Strongly disagree

Any answer apart from one of the two "agrees" is viewed as a negative.

I have also received a long email effectively explaining what answers the management wants containing the comment below

"Once again it's important to consider all factors which make up your final answer as a strongly agree"

Talk about manipulative,

Yes, I a p*ssed off.  - What is the point in a survey where the management would rather try and dictate the answers than try to understand the reasons behind the results?

That sucks!  ~X(

Now I know you can't really do this, but just for the catharsis:
QuoteHowever you are encouraged to explain your answers and these comments are put on the report to the managers word for word.

How about roll a d5 to randomise your responses and then write that's what you did, also saying, "If you don't really want to hear my honest opinion, you may as well let fate decide..."

Get the whole team to join in: anonymity is preserved and there's less chance of them singling out an individual for execution!  :d

Good luck with it all Orcs, cheers!

My experience is even when they seem to take the time to listen to the reasons behind the results, nothing is done to change anything. Most of it is bounced back as being the problem of the staff.

As someone who sends out those surveys (not Orcs, but for my Company) I can only assume it's being done for a tick box exercise and not as a genuine consultation. Investror in People and ISO9001 and probably lots of other standards like for staff to be consulted, and an electronic survey is easier and quicker than most methods.

As an orgnaisation, we deliberately don't try and push people into responding one way or another, but there is still reticence to be honest. I had one comment a few years ago "I don't want to say what I really think because I don't believe this survey is really anonymous." Sad thing is, I didn't know who said it to put them right.
