Hi
Played a couple of games of pike and shotte . Initially dismissed them for splitting pike and shot into separate units but purchased the ecw supplement which fixed it. Hooked now. Love them to bits now.

Black Powder; Zulus and Brits. First go at this period with these rules. They're easy enough, but I don't care for the huge moves that they allow (nor, in fact, did the opponent who was demonstrating them to me). Artillery seems absurdly weak too.
I don't drink coffee to wake up. I wake up to drink coffee.

That was one of our big problems with BP. And that after they had leapt forwards, the fire fight was very ineffectual.

Scenario from 3 August 1916 - the Latvian N.11 pilot was killed in the historical encounter and the Albatros pilot went on to serve with Boelcke. In the game the N.11 was likewise shot down, principally by fire from the Albatros observer.

1. Civil War Battles (Peter Pig ACW)

2. Union v. Confederate using the White Oak Road scenario from the rulebook.

3. Reasonably comfortable, although it was their first outing for about five years.

4. No

5. Two players and me umpiring.

I had forgotton how much fun these rules were compared to Regimental Fire and Fury, with which I have become very jaded of late, as the large scenarios are overly long and tedious, even with half a dozen players. I base slightly differently to the rulebook, i.e. infantry are 30mm x 20mm and each base counts as a half base. Doesn't seem to make any difference to moving a unit and makes life easier when casualties occur.

The Egyptians had deployed in depth, a dug in batta of infantry and a company of T-34s, somewhere in the Sinai Desert, defending a road junction at a settlement. There was a broad belt of mines, a road blocked road and a few rises between them and an Israeli armoured battalion of two Centurion companies and an infantry company, backed up by engineers and a Sherman flail tank!
The Israeli forces sent one tank company straight down the road to engage the tanks and infantry, while the infantry, engineers and second tanks set off left.
The Egyptian T-34s, dug in in a commanding rise, were eliminated by Israeli artillery and long range tank fire.
The engineers took heavy losses from Egyptian artillery crossing the minefield, but being valiant professionals only broke AFTER the job was done. This allowed the Israeli tanks to pour through the gap, ignoring the Egyptian infantry company to their front, skirt around and break into the Egyptian rear.
The Egyptians hustled four platoons of T-54s, that had arrived as reinforcements, to deal with the threat, but lost three platoons to Israeli long range tank fire, in exchange for one lost Centurion!
That was enough, with the Egyptian foot disintergrating from fire from the other Centurion company, the Egyptians turned tail and fled!
Israeli losses: engineer platoon, six centurions, one infantry squad.
Egyptian losses: 7 T-34s, 7 T-54s, 4 infantry platoons.

The Egyptian defensive positions
(IMAGE CENSORED)

Israelis break the road block, artillery pounds the T-34s on the hills, and engineers start clearing the minefield.
(IMAGE CENSORED)

My Israeli tanks break past the Egyptian defenders as our infantry mops them up (with a little help from my third platoon and command tanks), meanwhile in the centre, the Israeli tanks start on their second and third infantry platoon.

The end, all that remains are the battered remnants of a T-54 company as the Israeli forces surge towards Suez.

January 1945 East Prussia:
The Germans have a  battalion of VolksGrenadiers, Battalion of Panzer Grenadiers both with assets, supported by a nebelwerffer company, a reduced company of Tiger 1s and a company of  Panzer IVs and a platoon of Luftwaffe 88s. Germans are defending a series of large villages.
The soviets have two battalions of infantry with assets, a company of combat engineers, a tank battalion of a reduced heavy company of ISIIs, and 2 medium companies of T34/85 backed up with three reduced companies of cat killers SU152, SU120 and SU100s.

Last week the Germans managed to ambush the T34/85 destroying both companies, however the Soviets have over run a couple of infantry companies and the Germans have been forced to abandon one of the villages and fall back to defend two villages further back.

On Sunday night:

Soviet forces took a further village and were fighting it out for the remaining village.
The Soviet cat killers suffered 2 double 12s so played no part in the action.
The German armour took out the heavy company of ISIIs without loss to their own force.
The poor old VolksGrenadiers were virtually destroyed.
A very close run scenario, as the Germans were only 2 from their breaking point we awarded it as a Soviet winning draw.

1) What ruleset do you use in your last game? - Dux Bellorum
2) What armies were confronted? - Lidney (Anglian) vs Northumbrian (British)
3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset? - not really, club umpire tweaks changed certain areas of the rules that made it difficult.

5) How many players were in the game? - two and an umpire
Ouch!
Campaign game, thankfully not my force, given instructions to assault Lincoln, but no seize ladders or battering rams. Took massive losses, broke one out of three gates, but lost three units doing just that, two in combat in a turn once gates were breached. King captured after 9 turn slog against enemy cavalry outside the walls. Surprise attack shot away.
All a bit embarrassing really!

1) What ruleset do you use in your last game? - Twilight of the Sun King TYW variant
2) What armies were confronted? - Catholic vs Protestant circa 1632
3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset - Yes
4) and... was this the first time you used this ruleset? - No
5) How many players were in the game? - two

A test game of the upcoming ECW/TYW variant of the rules. The Protestants defended  and the Catholics set up to punch a hole through the middle while on either flank the Catholics aimed to pin their opponents. In the centre the Catholic early tercios lumbered forward and with their supporting cavalry made a lot of progress. But the Protestants attacked made good use of the flexibilty of using Dutch style regiments/cavalry to swap battered units to the rear. Meanwhile the two flanks pressed forward supported by the Protestant reserves. The Catholics came very close to destroying the centre but because of their large units the loss of 1 can make a big gap. They lost one and this eased the pressure in the centre. At more or less the same time the Protestant broke through on their left, followed shortly after by the same on the right. Game over.

1) What ruleset did you use in your last game?  Warband
2) What armies were confronted?  Hill Dwarves vs. Undead
3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset?  Yes, about 90%
4) Was this your first time using this ruleset?  No
5) How many players were in the game?  2

Hill Dwarves launched their attack against the Undead, who decided to stay mostly formed up in their deployment area.  Some forest in the middle of the battlefield slowed the Dwarven approach.  The Dwarven flanking force on the left was being destroyed by the Undead, but the push on the right and middle eventually destroyed some Undead units or forced them off the table.  The Undead eventually suffered enough loses to have to break.

1) What ruleset did you use in your last game?  Volley &a Bayonet - Wing scale
2) What armies were confronted?  British v Rebels Patriots
3) Did you feel comfortable with the ruleset?  Yes, had to check a couple of things as we hadn't played them for a while
4) Was this your first time using this ruleset?  No
5) How many players were in the game?  3 British v 2 Americans

To belatedly mark the 4thJuly we played a game based on British attack on the Birmingham Meeting House during the battle of Brandywine, September 1777. We substituted some of my southern forces for the historic units.

The British decided to screen on the left with one brigade while the large British brigade attempted an outflanking move on the left. The brigade of Guards would demonstrate on the right to pin the remainder of the rebels patriots. The Patriots defended the meeting house and the fields along the east west road.

The British brigades all rolled for arrival, the large and Guards were on time. The screening brigade was going to be three turns late  ~X(

The large brigade deployed the combined light companies as an improvised screen and aimed for the left of the rebel patriot line rather trying to fully outflank it. So began a really interesting game with several turns of fortune.

Eventually the meeting house was captured by the late arriving British brigade and with casualties mounting the rebels patriots were forced to withdraw

We had such a good time that we are playing again next week, the rebels patriots want to try a more forward defence defending edge of the hills rather than fighting on the plateau  :-\

Or black mark from this side of the Atlantic. When you rise up against your sovereign you are a rebel, whether the reason be good or bad. In 1642 I would definitely have been a rebel. In 1776 I'd more likely have been a Canadian.
