Sorry dear, I've GOT to go, I can't let Shaka down, he's organised everything, and there's the other side as well they'd be really disappointed if we didn't turn up to the battle. And I DID put it on the calendar so it really is your turn to look after the kids!

Have you seen me head ring anywhere, love?

'That disgusting sweaty, greasy thing with the hair stuck to it?  You know I always hated that thing. Why can't you wear something decent when you go out like Mr Mkwala from next door? Anyway; I threw it away... But we can go shopping for a new one Saturday...'

If Zulu (or most other SA) women would speak up like that when their husbands are being impossible, my dear old country might get one of its feet a bit out of the swamp.

Anyway...

Saw some Vietnam stuff for sale over of LAF - some nice US River boats, house and lots of ground troops, mix of Pendraken and Timecast

Might be of interest to someone - not getting much interest on LAF, probably due to it being 10mm

Lovely collection and a very reasonable price too... if only I had the money! :(
Thanks for sharing though.

I think they look fantastic, Fred, and the basing and sabots are very well done!  As to head rings, I am too ignorant to have an opinion.  :)

Vladgothic, from the Midlands? I do suspect that's a chap I know! Watchmaker by trade, so his attention to small fiddly detail is superb, great painting skills - shame it's mostly bare lead but the boats are cracking :)

Got some painting done today - some figures that have been sat nearly finished on painting sticks for months

Zulu War British Redcoats

2 units for TMWWBKs - and the crew for a gatling gun - but not the gun for some reason! There is a lot of fiddly detail on these figures, with the white cross straps, and cuff details.

Space Marine - Breacher Squads

Kind of at the other extreme a bunch of Epic scale Space Marine Breachers - doing the edges of the shields in black was a right pain - I thought it would be easy just following the edges of the shields, but I seemed to get paint everywhere! These guys still need a wash.

Very nice!
Where do the Space Marine Breachers come from? Never seen them before...

Thanks guys. The Breachers are from Vanguard who now have big ranges of sci fi stuff often with echoes of newer GW stuff.

The Vanguard stuff is very nice - well worth a look as they are bringing out lots of new stuff.

Sudan
Thinking of doing some British troops for the Sudan - and they certainly used a lot of different uniforms! The three main options seem to be
* Grey
* Khaki
* Red jackets, blue trousers

I can skip the Red jackets choice, at least initially by using Zulu war troops.

I had been planning on going with Khaki as the main troop colour, but now having done a small amount of research think that Grey may be more useful for a longer period of the conflict. I know the ultimate answer is do both, but I have some troops I want to get painted (they are code NW1 if that makes a difference for the cut of the uniform).

You might find this Perry guide useful, https://www.perry-miniatures.com/pages.php?page=sudan-uniform-guide

If you google "perry sudan uniform guide" you can find the pictures the article refers to.

Ta Paul - that's what had moved me away from my initial thoughts of khaki. As it seems to indicate grey was very common early on.

Battle - Lizardmen vs Beastmen

Back to some fantasy gaming, my Lizardmen (green) around the outside, vs Jon's Beastmen (brownish) in the centre. On the most colourful of gaming mats!

We used the new(ish) Warhammer AoS card deck to generate a scenario, it worked well. Giving a basic kill victory condition,  an interesting deployment with the defender in the middle, and the attacker in the 4 corners. I choose to stick to just two corners, as I didn't want to spread out too much, and the heavy woods on one side would have slowed my troops down a lot. The twist was a magical storm, giving all casters a +1.

This was mid game. On the left it was all a bit cagey. With a few of my better quality troops holding up rather a lot of lighter beastmen.
On the right (top) the Beastmen heavy infantry are making rather too good progress. At the bottom right, my cavalry have been engaged by the beastmen cavalry and a giant. My cavalry dispatch the enemy cavalry but the giant smashed them up in return, before I was able to surround it an bring it down.

The battle turned out very bloody, with huge casualties on both sides. I won by about 200pts (out of 3000) when we did the final count up. My Stegadon (large dinosaur) hadn't done much during the game, but in surviving it denied a lot of points to the enemy!
