Stripped some command stands of 1p and 2p coins that had started to get a fuzzy growth on the coins, so they will be stuck to mdf bases this morning, then grit added etc. I'm not sure why but not all the coins have done this, but took all of them off just in case.

Do you have a detailed photograph.

It's possible there's some anodization between the coins and figures.

I'd guess that it depends on the age of the coins, Steve (J).

Older ones may still have a 'decent' amount of copper in them.

Try putting a magnet to the bases....'newer' ones (HAH) will 'rush' to the magnet.

Heck...up to 1947, 'silver' coins...sixpences/shillings/two shillings/half crowns actually DID have some silver in their makeup.

Nowadays..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sorry, no photos Steve. It looks like a fungal growth rather than anodising and comes off with a rub, but still leaves a mark. I played safe as mentioned and changed the whole lot.

Phil, some were modern coins, ie the ones that are basically steel with a copper coating, other older ones that were copper. Thank God I ordered some mdf bases from Leon & Co earlier in the year!

Steve J

Command bases stuck to mdf and grit applied. Flags attached and will be painted where applicable to make them pop a bit more. Happy days!

Two limbers finished tonight and some command stands drybrushed, ready to main colours etc. Flocking of the limbers to be done tomorrow and maybe some more painting.

I REALLY have forgotten how to use paints. :'( :'( :'(

Finishing off....Finally...the repair job for D across the road, of the 'Napoleonic' cavalry bugler.....40mm 'scale', that was his last prezzie to his partner, who died right at the start of the pandemic. It was the stress that killed her, not the virus itself. :(

I only needed to use two colours.....black and white.....but without some matt varnish, it was a real struggle.

Couldn't believe.......

1)The paints I took home from Workshop, the day I was made surplus to requirements (30 or so years ago) are still useable......So are the Ral Partha ones from 20 years ago
2)The odd smell of Tamiya paints......BARF.....and they ARE acrylic ? :o
3)I HADN'T got a pot of matt varnish of any sort....Just some Rowney Acrylic Matt Medium.
4)I didn't ask Leon for a 'pot' of either black or white Vallejo paint when I decided to give those a go.......(I DO like those, though. :))

Time to put the brushes away for another 10 years . ;)

Cheers - Phil. :)

Tamiya ARE acrylic but an odd formula. Siolong as the container is air tight the paint will stay useable almost indefinatly.

I do like Tamiya paints, Ian...... :)

But they don't 'arf smell odd.
It's SO long since I've actually opened any of the dozens of paint pots in the drawers.

(I actually found odd useful things, that I thought were lost forever.....Correction...
That I'd forgotten about....More Swann Morton handles.....one that takes the 20 series blades.....3 razor saws....you don't want to know the rest.. ;D)

Cheers - Phil.  :)
