Hey gents, just started a solo game of epic 40k (wich is a great game if you feel like pushing units around and shooting stuff on an evening when you have no opponent)

LAst time i played was a long time ago, before i had my fleece throw and only a few scenic pieces at my disposal. The only games i played at the time were played at the FLGS, so i had no need for a table of my own. I only started gaming solo after that, so had to start from scratch with my setup.

So i thought i'd dig up an old picture of that game and make a pic of the one i'm playing right now to compare and show how far i have progressed, but it seems i have deleted those pictures to get some space on my photobucket account. But since i took the pics already i thought i'd throw them on here anyway!

I actually have a new 'overlay' for the table wich i am using for the first time. Gives me a playing area of 6' 8" X 3' 10".  Great space compared to the  5' X3'  that the original table has! (one of the reasons of not playing epic 40k sooner was because of the restricted table space)

It would seem the land raiders really dislike the spead freaks!! (This was a shoot-off totally dependant on who won initiative!)

Luckily i put the 'lifta-droppers a bit to the back, so they escaped the onslaught, and happily tossed a landraider on top of the hq's ride  ;D ;D ;D

Thanks!

End of turn two, A LOT of smoking wrecks!

Orks called in an orbital barrage with a fate card, bagging two more land raiders. Marines are down two three raiders!

Must say, i'm rusty with the rules, so i am taking a long time to make sure i get things right. As i mentioned, been a while since i played!!

Allright, i'm stopping now, but will leave it for tomorrow, just before the assault phase! Very tense  ;)

Go banana marines!!

Which version of Epic are you using? I mainly ask as I don't recognise some of the marine formations. But considering in the last game of epic we played,  we played marines vs marines and found we were using 3 different lists!

Epic 40k, where you can put your formations togheter yourself. You make up 'detachments'. You hve a commander, and up to 10 'core' choices like tactical marines, bike units, terminators or scouts (and designated transports like rhino's and land raiders). For each core choice you take you get to choose up to 1 support choice like dreadnoughts, vindicators, land speeders and whirlwinds.

Great looking game - been a while since I played a game of Epic, may have to dust off my own banana marines now!
There are 100 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who can work from incomplete data

Cool, very different from Epic Armageddon which we play, where formations are very rigid for most armi s

Well, this gives you the opportunity to put the flavour in them yourself. My marines for example are a white scar succesor chapter (marauders), who are a mobile strike force. So you just take all units with transports, and use lots of land speeders and vehicles fo support.

Same goes for the orks, want lootas? just take lots of shooty boyz, want snakebites, upgrade your boyz to boarboyz and use squiggoths as support etc..

You can always mix and match whatever you want though, all depends if you want to set a theme or not.

Best thing you can compare it with, is that each of your detachments represents an army you would use in regular 40k, but you just see the bigger picture with lots of those 'armies' fighting over a larger surface.

So finished the game, the space marines won by breaking the ork morale.

The battered marine right flank sent the speed freaks running

While the left flank drove off the goff battlewagons.

While the center braced for an assault that never came.

In epic 40 k you get blast markers when being shot at, and you have to roll over the amount you have on a d6 to be able to move, if you fail you are pinned in place. When the snakebites got in assault range, they had one blast marker so had to roll anything but a 1, wich they promptly did. Turn after that they had two blast markers, and they rolled another one. This was a vital assault, as the marine center was already very thin, and had the orks been able to breach, they could have swung to either flank. But their warboars were clearly scared of the explosions  ;D

All in all an enjoyable game. With lots of casualties on both sides!

what was left of the marines: bike detachment in front with their speeders, the whirlwind unit and the remnants of the 60 men that occupied the center

And behind that the terminator detachment (now without land raiders) and the Inquisitor commander (somebody called for an inquisitor right?)

and the remnants of the ork waaagh

It would seem that the marines are in worse shape than the orks, but as a matter of fact the orks lost twice as many vehicles compared to the marines:

ork losses: 15 stands of infantry/bikes/cavalry and 26 AFV's
marine losses: 16 stands of infantry/bikes and 13 AFV's

match MVP's:

for the marines this is the bike/speeder detachment , assaulting the goff battlewagons twice, and destroying 10 battlewagons and 7 or 8 stands of nobz/stormboyz

for the orks it would be the lifta droppas, who killed 4 of the land raiders and half of their terminator cargo, by flipping them in the air like ragdolls.

idiots of the game:

the snakebites who just didn't charge

And the most unlucky buggers:

for the marines it would be the land raiders, they started on par by killing 7 vehicles in their opening salve (14 shots at 4+), but managed to get themselves matched up against the worst possible enemy on the board (the lifta droppas and the death ray speedstas are the only things on the table that negate the land raiders' heavy armour).
They are seen here in their post battle victory party  :d :d

for the orks it has to be gorgak the not-so-gracefull. The stompa managed to get his leg stuck on a tiny strip of rubble in turn one and just toppled over and exploded! A roll of 1 followed by a roll of 1 is never good on a difficult terrain test  ;D ;D
