The decision by Pendraken Miniatures to commission an extensive range of Korean war figures is to be applauded.  However I appreciate that there are many (possibly more than 25!) of you out there.  You have no interest in the Korean war.  But you are into 1970s era bush wars .  If so this thread is dedicated to you.

Some years ago when 15mm was the smallest figures with detail,  Peter Pig was tempted into the post war world.  To the surprise of many their proprietor (the canny Martin Goddard) opted for a multi national approach. He focused on Africa's plethora of small bush wars and produced a wide range of figures who could not be defined by nationality or indeed army. They were generic 1960/70s figures in berets, caps and bush hats.  He also introduced a small range of vehicles, although this could be supplemented by other brands such as QRF.  Artillery was often limited 106RRs.

When asked about his choice, Martin pointed out that what happens on the tabletop is a small scale skirmish.  The scenario provided by African bush wars was best suited to this type of skirmishing.   Now Peter Pig has supplemented their range with IDF and FFL etc, but the principle of small table top engagements with a flexibility of  OOBs was retained.  They were/still are popular ranges.

Now, the punch line.  Quite a few of the Korean ranges are not popular in the classic  parenthesis of  winter mountain warfare - but the summer dress South Koreans, North Koreans and 41 Commando would make classical Third World  figures and mercenary types for a wide range of African bush wars, Latin American revolutions and similar scenarios real or imagined.

If this style of 1960s/70s bush war gaming is your thing, then we need your vote.

A lot of the combat jackets and caps would work well.  Indeed the Marines and RoK would paint up dandy for the 2506 BA. Their paras wore Stetsons after the drop but that can be overlooked. Minor glitch with the personal weapons where Castro's forces are involved. North Koreans fit the PNR nicely.  But the rest of the troops were still armed with the new FN 7.62 that had been shipped to Batista's regime just before it collapsed (as had Comet tanks !).  So wrong weapon if you want accuracy.

If you wanted to stage Castros' 1956 Granma landing the figures would also work.  Add a beard with green stuff to a 41 Commando and you have Che Guevara!

The RoK would also paint up as Algerian FLN which from 1956 waged neo- conventional skirmishes against the French (use Indo China range).
