Caught ten mins of the '58 Dunkirk film yesterday, cracking film. Was the bit where you get to see John Mills bludgeon a German sentry to death with a rifle butt. No gore, no close up slow mo bloody spatters, but there's something about the nasty sounds and quick brutality that makes it really rather visceral nonetheless.

Atonement has an excellent modern portrayal of Dunkirk in, too - the 360 single take pan shot of the beaches is superb.

I wonder how the new one will stack up? The trailer looks good, but then they often do whatever the film is like...

Filmed 4 miles from me on Redcar beach and the steel plant at Warrenby by the south Gare.
