With the "outing" of wargamers abs D'Guy saying he trolls wargamer bars I started to think about having a partner who is also a wargamer.

Having a wife or S/O who is also a wargamer sounds ideal, but is it?

Would you gather twice as big a lead mountain?
They would KNOW how much you were spending.
Would you need two painting tables?
What if you argue about what rules, what scale , what periods.

It could cause more issues than it solves.

Thoughts gentlemen and ladies please.

Hmmm, I'm glad my wife isn't into wargaming. Trying to agree on things is bad enough, but add in rulesets, armies to collect etc, it simply doesn't bear thinking about!

Well my wife has a huge lead pile of LotR figures that she now claims she won't be able to paint due to the arthritis - so regularly attempts to guilt me into doing them.

And to be fair I have done lots but I'm stalled on the 3 balrogs that I finally assembled and have been staring at me from the shelf above my workstation for probably a year now  :(

So it definitely has its downsides, yes.

On the other hand I don't have to hide purchases or compete for a gaming budget  :D

And I get much better presents as a rule (although I was majorly disappointed with the last one when the big box turned out to contain a leaf blower  :o)

I'm happy with my non-wargaming wife who does not complain about my various metal dalliances, just looks bored, smiles, shakes her head and goes back to her jigsaw puzzle. I read that as positive support for my hobby.

I'd rather have a partner who played boardgames, and had friends who also played boardgames.
I'd quite happily play boardgames with wife and friends on an evening.
Don't think I'd want another half who played wargames though - unless it was fantasy, or even sci-fi. Both skirmish type games or small battles like Dragon Rampant.
Might even help me to stick and play with only the one period, and get it completed (well, apart from the odd new purchase).

How would one write a lonely hearts advert asking for a woman who liked to play with little men?  :x

Lister: "Oh God, aliens... Your explanation for anything slightly peculiar is aliens, isn't it?

Rimmer: "Well, we didn't use it all, Lister. Who did?"

Lister: "Rimmer, aliens used our bog roll?"

Hi all my wife's not into wargaming as such but will have the odd game with me.

But she does enjoy painting and making scenery. So all in all I'd say I'm a very lucky man

Take care

Funnily enough my wife will be sat near by doing a jigsaw puzzle whilst I am sat painting my toys. :)

Works for me. More games, another option over weekends, insurance against a no-show by other players, and there's another player for campaigns too.
