Hello Chaps

Thanks for the kind words... or are they accusations  :D :D.

I've had an interest in virtual tabletop and electronic campaigns for a long time so I had most of this stuff stashed away, it was just a matter of refreshing the memory.

Heather (SWMBO) would say that I don't need any encouragement to sit on the interweb chasing down obscure things  ;D ;D.

Cheers

Reporting back.

Downloaded GIMP and had a play and I must say for a free download it is excellent. Had a go with the layering feature and I can see how it could be used to add items onto the map such as fortresses etc. I couldn't see any major advantages over Visio for dealing with troop movement on maps so as I use Visio professionally it makes sense for me to use it as my medium.

The way it will work is I will email the map and the starting positions of the Movement Units (These are brigades). Both sides will email me back their moves and I will transfer that to the map doing any dicing necessary for forced marches, pursuit attrition etc, and so on punctuated by resulting battles. Battles will be decided as Wargames and the results transferred to the map. I hope to get one of the opponents to be a long distance one so that I can fight his battles.

I hadn't thought of doing it this method before and it was the posts that sparked the solution, so thanks chaps.

Cheers, Rob  :)  :)
