They seem to be in perpetual 'trouble' according to a chum of mine who knows quite a few of the Airfix chaps. I hope they keep going but they have been left miles behind by the competition, so I think their days are numbered to be honest :(.

£1m write-off. And 19p off the value of shares. That's going to smart somewhat......

It's like Woolworth; they're an icon, an object of nostalgia and I'd be sad to see them go ... but I haven't bought anything from them in years.

Same here

The troouble is much of thier stuff i dated. Take the 1/76 sherman for instance sells at £6 and its less detailed than the Plastic soldier company ones that 3 for £15, and go to gether in about a 10th of the time.

Though i am on the lookoput for the Fort Sahara - for another project, but I am nt paying stupid money for it.

Completely agree.

I've quite liked seeing Airfix stuff available again - but it is just nostalgia. I bought one pack of 1/32nd Commandoes a couple of years ago, but was underwhelmed. The good bit is its the same stuff as when we were kids, but that is the bad bit too. Its the old tired models that were of dubious accuracy many years ago, and that is just more obvious now.

If they're cheap somewhere and I fancy a pack, I've bought a few. But in general actual wargaming figures in plastic are just as cheap or cheaper these days, AND easy to assemble AND better detailed/more accurate. As I don't have any trains any more I haven't bought anything actually Hornby branded in decades - their terrain is way pricey!

Shame to see them go, but if smaller manufacturers can produce better stuff at a cheaper price...

Ofc if they donated at the recent Tory Fundraiser they could have asked for a bail out!
