Can anyone recommend some good online shops for buying storage/carrying cases?

My personal favourite are KR Multicase - http://www.krmulticase.com

There is also Figures in Comfort - http://www.figuresincomfort.net/

For 10mm tamks and infantry I use: http://www.krmulticase.com/ They are a friendly outfit and helpful. Tell him what it is for and he will help to configure the foam trays. It can be expensive but I've had some of this stuff for well over 10 years and it has never worn or failed.

For Napolenics I use more traditional box-binder type storage.

I use the Really Useful Boxes ( http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk) 9Litre box with a mix of Hobby Trays (for figures) and Sorting Trays (for large vehicles, terrain and the like).

I always trawl the net and my local WH Smiths before buying, prices and postage variations mean costs fluctuate immensely. Really Useful Products themselves are often cheaper for the items themselves but postage makes them most expensive. Smiths prices are all over the place but when they're low postage is a bus ride home I was going to make anyway :)

Here's the KR case I got at Warfare starting to be put to use:

Right hand side contains 50x25mm and 25x25mm bases, Left hand side a mix of everything from 15mm circular to 50x25mm. The case contains 6 of these half trays and one double thickness one with bigger cut-outs for bases up to 40mm.

Each of the smaller trays would take 42 small bases or 21 large bases or a mix there of. They are deep enough to take based 10mm cavalry, as long as they don't have lances/standards.

As Rob mentioned, KR will advise you on the best mix of trays to suit your needs.

I rather like the look of KR Multicase!

And they can be cut to any specification?

NeilCFord

Chances are you will find they already do a suitable tray, but if not, they can make custom trays. They are very responsive on email.

I use  http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/really-useful-box-grey-4-litre/587320-1002

with http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/stix2-a4-self_adhesive-magnetic-sheet/606213-1000 stuck inside. All my bases have steel paper underneath so they stay put when in the boxes.

That magnetic sheet is very expensive from hobby craft, I typically pay £5 for 3 sheets. I used Abel Magnets most recently.

For 10mm I mainly add magnetic sheet on the bases of figures,  then store in box files lined with steel paper. But I also use Really useful boxes, mainly the 4l and 9l sizes which are about A4 in area.

I have a couple of foam storage cases and they are good for more irregularly shaped stuff. Fledherr offer a pick and pluck block of foam, which is a large block of foam with 1cm square columns cut into it. You can then pull out columns, to different depths, and a shape that fits your model, this works great for dragons and large monsters and things.

Not sure about KR, but Figures in Comfort have some 'generic' foam trays with a 15mm grid cut through it.  You can pull out the pieces you don't need to leave the cavities you want for your figures:

http://www.figuresincomfort.co.uk/products/customisable-trays/foam-tray-41-pick-and-pluck-5mm-1.html
www.pendraken.co.uk - Now home to over 10,000 products, including nearly 5000 items for 10mm wargaming, plus MDF bases, Battlescale buildings, I-94 decals, Litko Gaming Aids, Militia Miniatures, Raiden Miniatures 1/285th aircraft, Red Vectors MDF products, Vallejo paints, Tiny Tin Troops flags and much, much more!

Subedai

Until Poundland stopped having them, all my 6mm are in high sided, rigid A4 plastic folders, everything else is in stackable, supermarket grocery cardboard boxes. However, travel of my chaps is limited to a maximum of five feet from cupboard to table so there is not really a problem..

I have for my sins a variety of different systems.
I store my X-Wing in KR Trays, I have recycled some of my GW cases and trays for my 28mm WW2 with a few trays from figures in comfort.
I also use the battlefoam system for my 15mm, which tend to be a bit pricey but the Battlefaom Uk site are having a black friday sale on 27th November so you could pick up a bargain or two if you are lucky.

Genom

All of my 10mm have magnetic tape (courtesy of Coritani) on the underside and are either stored in half depth A4 boxfiles lined with steel paper or are in a variety of biscuit tins. (I really like shortbread)

My 28mm stuff is scattered through a variety of old games boxes that I've filled with foam from old blister packs, bubble wrap etc. but I am in the process of rehousing the ones that travel to club regularly into KR foam cases for safety.

Sean67

I use a mixed variety of boxes plastic and wooden.
I also used the poundland A4 folders as well as A4 cardboard fold over boxes.
Strangest boxes I've picked up recently are 4 plastic boxes used by the Bundswher as boxes to hold grenades in they have enough scope to hold around 76 40x20 bases as well as 40x10 bases.
