Basing for Chain of Command

I'm looking to us the Chain of Command rules to do some AVBCW using, obviously, Pendraken figures. I am currently mulling over a couple of basing schemes:

1. Individual troop figures on 15mm bases, with leaders on 20mm.
2. Troops based in twos on 20mm (or maybe 22mm) bases, leaders on 15mm

Both schemes would require some kind of marking for junior and senior leaders, but that's detail. Currently I'm going with round bases.

I would appreciate any thoughts, especially the wisdom of anyone who has done something similar.

For 10mm CoC I went with the following

Infantry 2 figures on 30mm x 15mm base - these look good against cover, as both figures are by the cover, rather than 1 by the cover, and the other a bit of a way back.
Weapons teams, 2 figures on 20-25mm squares
Leaders, single figure on ~15mm washer. NCOs had SMGs, officers had caps and pistols! I found that with the small base, the weight of the washer helped keep the figure upright.


I would avoid basing all the figures as individuals - too many small things to move around!

We did play some early games with 5-6 figures on a 50x30mm base, and this still worked. But obviously your troops were rather bunched up.

Everything individually based with the exception of teams i.e gun teams etc

Fred - thanks. I like your point about cover, will take that in to consideration.

Roman and Nosher - what size bases for the individual figures and why? I'm guessing stability might be an issue with small bases as Fred mentioned.

I will definitely documenting my painting and basing journey, most likely on here.

I use 18mm washers ( this 18mm is the external size  )
It's ok for stability. ( but FYI I use some kind of "plaster" on my bases, it may add some weight)
