I have these rules and know that they have a standard basing system, but has anyone used them with basing other than the standard?

I use a figure/man ratio to determine basing and ground scale and depending on the period base units on different sized bases. I would like to use the rules but don't want to rebase figures.

I know of players that use full, two thirds and half size bases for V&B.

One approach with V&B is to use sabot bases, another approach would be to use base width.

What period(s) are you thinking of using V&B for and what is your current basing?

Talked about this on their forum a while back.
As long as the two opposing sides are on the same sized bases it works really well.
The rules say, each base represents the space a unit covers, therefore you can use whatever sized figures and ratios on it you like (and we have played games where my 10mm Saxons have fought my mates 54mm Prussians, I have  30 infantry to a base, he has two!!!

I want to use the rules for 1859. At present I base on 100:1 man:figure ratio.

I base the French (3 btn regts) on 3 30x20 bases and Piedmont (4 btn regts) on 4 30x20 bases. Austrians regts being 4btns strong and basically larger units are based on 4 40x20 bases. I don't want to rebase and even sabots would not overcome the difference in base sizes.

My suggestion would be 90x90 sabots, this means that 1" in the rules is 30mm making the conversions straightforward

Your French would have 2 stands in the front line and 1 in second, the Piedmount and Austrians would be 2 and 2.
