I've got a bad feeling about this...

I've been playing a fair bit of FFG's excellent X-Wing game lately and so tonight, we decided to do a 100pt game.

It sounds like fun but can't see me ever being willing to pay the prices they want for the ships. Same goes for Wings/ Ships of Glory.

That looks like enormous fun.
Good report, too.

It's a great game system, i too got carried away! Got 26 ships at the moment!
I stopped buying once they came out with the non-film mambo jambo though, i like my stuff from the original trilogy.

I must say, when i play double Y-wings, i usually pair each y wing (with ion turret) with another more manoeuverable ship. That way you can ion your target and get the other ship in a good position next turn!

But the crossover was a nice try, next time, start the two groups closer to each other, that way you have less dead ground when you do your turn, and you can cover  each groups flank with the other  ;)

Good read. I'll let others enjoy the shall I, shan't I conundrum. I'll just read  and move on.

'I'll just get a few', I thought.   =O
To be honest though at 100pts the maximum ships you'll need is 8 (TIE swarm).

Aye, but I am going to get the YT-2400 ship (Dash Rendar's ship).

Yeah its a good tactic, and one we've used in other games.  Y-Wings MUST have a turret as they're basically like flying bricks.

We're still kind of learning the game so we're trying stuff out, making mistakes, etc.

We're starting a campaign/tournament thing in a week or two.  I'll be playing Imperials.  Can't wait!

Yeah, the problem was, I slowed down close to the TIEs whereas I should have just powered on through and circled back in.  I didn't follow through on the plan, got caught in a dogfight with the TIEs and they took me to pieces.  Lesson learned!

Wait till you play an epic game, then you'll see why you need more. I bought extra bombers and stuff to be able to make bombing runs on the transport. And extra of everything to make squads of fighters.

I house ruled that you can have a squad leader who can take upgrades, and the rest in the squad are generics who have a 'standard' loadout. For example , my standard x wing has an r2 astromech and one set of proton torpedoes. I did this because in big games, if you take all pilots with special abilities etc.. it slows the game down A LOT.

It's not an easy game to master too!

Nice report Luddite.
I noticed that you have Durham Wargames Club link on your posts, I take it you will be at the show next weekend?

We (Redcar Ironbeards) are putting on a Rapid Fire WW2 demo game so if you stop by it would be nice to put a face to a name :)
