I can't be the only one for who these are the only things worth watching on TV tonight!

I know, I know, iPlayer and all that but seriously, you couldn't have put Armada on at 10pm when the news is on Beeb One?

That way those who wanted to catch up on tales of an uncaring government, religious hatred, overstretched health provision, rebellion, acts of terrorism and great powers interfering in other countries internal affairs could watch the programme they wanted ... and the rest could watch the news!

1945:the Savage Peace

This was on BBC2 immediately after the Armada. Not interested in the Armada (Anita Dobson as QE1, really ?) but the Savage Peace looks good.

Of further interest might be:

Beowulf coming to ITV, currently filming.
The Last Kingdom coming to BBC2 next year, with Matthew Macfadyen and Rutger Hauer.
War and Peace coming to BBC1 at some point, most likely next year as they're still filming.

So all-in-all some good stuff to look forward to.

I have both an HDD/DVD recorder (more flexible than TIVO) and Virgin's catch up but still think the timing odd.

Anita Dobson was brilliant as the ageing Elizabeth, IMHO.

I'm painting some tumbling Dice 1:2400 scale Armada period ships at the moment so absolutely timely for me

I watched this and while it was horrific what people had done to each other, I did wonder how may of the Germans who were telling their stories who had happilly supported the German Reich and the atrocities caried out by them.   There was no mention of the atrocities commited by the German army going the other way.

Then I went back to my book - Troop Leader  By Bill Bellamy. A Tank troop leader in Normandy.  He describes how he saw a Fench familly welcome the allies to thier farm and gave the soldiers food.   in the fluid fighting , The Germans came back and killed the farmer and his wife and cut the hands off the 10 year old boy.  Another incident he mentions them gouging out the eyes of a young girl.
