Now that I am an expert in the Churchill AVRE, can I please have some help with assembling the 8.8mm AA gun. Obviously for Normandy I need to put it together in the Hans von Luck antii-tank mode.

Don't forget von Luck pointing his pistol at the battery commander, an interesting command base ;)

Yes its a challenge, but it can be done.

Its not the worst model to put together and work out but, as others have said, requires a degree of patience.

Here's my late war model.

Here's the completed model in all its menacing glory:

The splinter shield sits down on the elevating cylinders, whilst the barrel pivots on the far ends of the curved arms to elevate (well, at least, the real one does). Mine are firmly super-glued.

Many thanks to all. The mix-up between mm and cm just shows how much we need to have this in-out referendum and get back to rods, poles, perches.

Nice work HB - I do like the look of that gun.

That photo shows the problem with this casting - the two recoil suppressors should be pointing forwards parallel to the gun barrel. Here you can see them at 45ยบ pointing into the ground.

On Matt's they are painted brown, and he has had a good go at getting them bent into the correct position (and hiding the gun in a shrubbery!).

even when bent they still don't look quite right.

In future I'd cut them off and re-attach at the right angle

Thought I'd posted a pic last night, must still have been in progress when I shut the thing down - it was taking a long time to move from one screen to another on PD last night for some reason.

So, 88mm with straightened recoil mechanisms. Took a little "persuasion" with a pair of pliers and some tissue paper padding!
