6mm ACW

Okey cokey.

I think I may be using Peter Pig rules for ACW and probably with Baccus 6mm stuff.

a)  Would 6mm minis work with the PP rules;
b)  Are the Baccus "ready to go" armies reflective of typical forces?  eg:

Confederate Army Pack
•12 Units of Infantry
•2 Units of Zouaves
•2 Units of Mounted cavalry
•2 Units of Dismounted cavalry
•5 x Artillery
•12 x Generals and Guidons

I don't want to spend hours researching so wondered if these fit the bill?

GETAGRIP: I can't speak for the rule's per say but BACCUS'S starter army is fine.I own a ton of Baccus stuff and they do a nice job on there starter armies.with ACW you don't need that much cav. it's more infantry and arty. Horse was used mostly for scouting and screening but there several large cav. battle's in ACW but not like Napoleonic era Hope this help's ?            Rougue (Mike)

I reckon the PP rules will work fine with 6mm - they're based on 30mm  bases, so just sub X 6mm figures/strips that fit nicely on said bases and play exactly as written. Much as I really like PP's sculpts I reckon it;d look better in 6mm anyway, give a real "mass effect".

As to whether the pack contains a "whole army" in one go, I can't remember what army composition is like for CWB in detail, sorry!

I still have a thought to play PBI with 6mm figures as it'd be a one to one figure to ground scale...

My main concern about the "set" armies was the lack of cavalry but, apparently, this is normal for ACW.

Yeah, it's very unlikely you'll see actual mounted cavalry in a set fight, in fact I suspect pretty much never in the front line! And not for long if you did, although there might be an impromptu Tesco value "beef burger" BBQ very soon afterwards...

As an outsider to the "historical stuff" it surprises me because (deep breath) form the outside, it doesn't look much different to Napoleonic battles.

I realise, however, there are MASSIVE differences

There were a few cavalry vs cavalry battles where they were mounted but in major battles they were normally used as mounted infantry, dismounting to fight. Either that or they were off "scouting" anything that wasn't nailed down

Early on in the war, in particular, soldiers of the Army of the Potomac often asked: "Who ever saw a dead cavalryman?" To be fair, there were plenty of dead cavalrymen, but since their most important work took place in skirmishes and recon missions away from the main army the infantry didn't see their "deadness".

The Baccus army packs are very good and you can get add-on packs if you want to boost numbers later or you can buy individual packs if you just add the odd unit or two. Lots of flexibility and nice figures that look good en masse though lacking the detail you get with Pendraken's 10mm stuff.

The units in CWB are Brigades not individual regiments that said heres the general make up of 'em

infantry up to 7 bases (1 of them carting a flag or 2)
cavalry up to 4 bases (1 of them carting a flag or 2)
Arty each indivdual gun model is a battery (though they can be combined in game into 2 gun "grand batteries")

as for the pack makeup well that depends on the scenario, the battle of White Oaks Road is purely an infantry affair 4 Reb brigades attacking 7 Union brigades. Yeah I know 4 attacking 7, but historically they won, go figgur.

And do remember to paint up those bases with flags on them, they are important in game, they track the status of the unit (no extra prettty uniforms for the elites here) basicly the flags position in the unit gives its status. on the right theyre veterans. in the centre joe averages, on the left raw johnny come latelies. Easily remembered with the phrase "Right is Might"

Have fun and because the rules lend themselves to solo play you can feel free to thrash them out yourself. But any questions feel free to ask.
