Wow, what a nice forum.
Thanks for the warm welcome and positive feedback.

Here are a few more Saxons I painted some time ago

As I'm really working on earlier period Saxons, these won't have much use in Dux Bellorum for the time being  :(

Apply thinned PVA
Dip in sand
When sand is dry "flood" with brown ink with a dash of washing up liquid aded to help the flow
When dry, drybrush Bronzed Flesh, then Bleached Bone
Paint on small spots of thinned PVA
Add static grass.

Paint base edge (though I've just noticed some are brown and some are green...doh!)

If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

I particularly love the grubby Great Fyrdmen.   :D

The only note i'd caution is the use of purple.  Not sure this was a colour dye available to the Saxons.  :-\

Purple dye wasn't unknown to the Saxons - just hard to get hold of and so limited to the elites.
Hence I've used it on the huscarls and the noble warriors, not on the mass of regular troops.

Not sure I'm afraid.
Probably a GW mix, but I tend to add pots together as they run out, so it's a bit of an organic homebrew.
