Hi

Me and two other guys in our club are about to embark on a campaign set in the fictional country of Andovia roughly set in central Europe circa 1850-1860. I wrote a bit of a back ground story to set the scene.

The  people of Andovia  have dreaded this day for considerable amount of time. The  ancient ruler of Andovia   the grand duke James the great  has finally succumbed to his injuries suffered 50 years previous from a bizzare gardening accident. Unfortunately his sole heir Duke Colin ( the insane) has come to the throne. The Andovian  army has been rendered useless as Duke Colin has banned it from using firearms and cannon as he doesn't like the noise they make. They are now armed with nothing more than pointy sticks and rusty swords. The neighbouring countries are watching with intent as they make their plans. To the north the debauched and deviant Kingdom of Kendrickstein (prussians). To the west the  cruel and militaristic Kingdom of Bayernsreich ( Bavaria). To the east the greedy and brutal Grand Duchy of Heisenburg (Russia). So the scene is set for the monumental struggle that will become know as The war of the Andovian succession.

The first battle will be fought tomorrow between Heisenburg and Kendrickstein.

Cheers

Jim

Hi

Black powder and pendraken figures (obviously ).

Wrote the campaign rules myself which are really simple no book keeping. They can be adapted to any period.

The rules are easily adapted. The copy if you want them will be for our campaign but feel free to change anything. They are based on a ladder the first to the top wins. The nation's and units involved  are adaptable.

Send me a pm and I can send you a copy.

Hi

Sundays battle report

Battle of Wolowitz Farm

Battle Type – Counter Attack

After their initial incursion into the Kingdom of Andovia had met with little or no opposition the Heisenberg High Command were feeling a little overconfident.  To this end they detached a large part of their field army to the area around Wolowitz's Farm. Unfortunately for them the Kingdom of Kendrickstein just happened to be coming in the opposite direction. Choosing to stand and fight rather than withdraw, despite being outnumbered, the Heisenberg General Von Goodman sent riders back to call for reinforcements and then made his battle plan.

Turn 1/Turn 2
The Kendrickstein forces began a slow methodical advance across a broad front. This was almost mirrored by the Heisenberg army as both sides tried to get themselves formed into a winning position. Despite being at the extreme of their range both armies proved a little trigger happy firing volley after volley at each other. The training of both forces as well accusations of the Bayereich having sold both sides substandard ammo came to the fore as despite the volume of fire neither side could hit the side of a barn.

Turn 3/Turn 4
Again both sides tried to outmanoeuvre each other but Brigade commanders seemed to have difficulty interpreting their orders and several brigades stood around twiddling their thumbs as commanders tried to match up their orders with their maps.
Despite this the Heisenberg army managed to inflict enough casualties to cause one battery of Kendrickstein horse artillery to turn tail and rout of the battlefield.

Turn 5/Turn 6
Both sides were now well within musketry range and were trading volley for volley. In the centre of the Heisenberg  casualties has shaken  the 3rd battalion of the Von Skyler regiment. The brigade commander tried in vain to rally the battalion. In a panic the battalion turned and ran taking their commander with them.
This led to confusion in the Heisenberg centre as junior officers tried to keep control, as the 1st battalion Von Skyler regiment when ordered to fill the gap took this as an order to charge the Kendrickstein line. Despite being fired on as the closed with the enemy, the closed into melee. At first it seemed that this blunder would break the Kendrickstein line, however the Kendrickstein proved to be made of sterner stuff and held their position and forced the 1st battalion back.

Turn 7/Turn 8
As the battle continued to rage, conditions began to favour the forces of Heisenberg as finally their reinforcements arrived.  Their orders were simply attack. To this end the Heisenberg infantry advanced on mass towards the Kendrickstein centre. Seeing this advance the Heisenberg lancer regiment 'Walt' decided they were tough enough to take on a regiment of Kendrickstein cuirassiers. The resulting melee proved quite the opposite as the cuirassiers smashed the Walt lancers chasing them off the battlefield.
In the centre of the battlefield the Kendrickstein Guard Cuirassiers thinking breastplates could stop bullets rode right up to the Heisenberg infantry. A swift volley from the infantry disproved their belief and they turned tail and routed.

Turn 9/Turn 10
The battle was now turning into a stalemate as both sides traded blows. However despite stand firm under intense fire the 2nd Battalion Von Skyler became shaken and started to withdraw. Seeing this the rest of their brigade also started to pull out.
As night started to fall it looked like it would be a minor victory for Kendrickstein as the controlled most of the battlefield.

Result – Minor Victory to Kendrickstein.

Casualties
Kendrickstein lost 4 batteries of Horse Artillery and the Guard Cuirassiers  of which 2 batteries of artillery were permanently lost, the other 2 batteries and the Guard Cuirassiers were recovered.
Heisenberg lost 3rd battalion Von Skylar and the Walt lancers.  Only the lancers were recovered.
