Buy plenty of Matron's sculpts now!

If he keeps using the chainsaw, the value of his work will soon go up.

Got a chance to take some pictures of the last batch of casualties :) these will be varnished at Weta as it has definitely not been varnishing weather this week ;)

And noticed one painting task I had forgotten to do on all of them :o

I wonder if you can spot what I missed :-\

20 Kiwi casualties and two discarded rifles, a sobering painting job

The Perrys have done an amazing job on the sculpts =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

This body, for example, comes with at least 5 different possible heads :o these can be seen above

Off to Weta Workshop to work with the Perrys again this weekend :) :) :D :D :D :D :D 8) 8) 8) 8)

The diorama is in the museum but the figures are yet to join it, sounds like there will be plenty to do over the weekend  :!! :!! :!!

Yesterday was another satisfying day working on the diorama (with the Perrys)  :)

The blog http://anzacdiorama.blogspot.co.nz/ shows some good pictures of the majority of the volunteers working at Weta Workshop on the figures.

This gives another hint of the numbers of figures involved

Some of the Turks in the foreground with some of the Kiwis in the background

And this an indication of the likely troop density on some parts of the diorama, each block is a Turkish platoon at 1 to 1

I was part of a small group of volunteers who got to assist the Perrys and the Weta team at the museum site for part of the day :)

My humble task was to clean lose flock, foliage and little bits of polystyrene off part of the diorama with a 1" brush

Today was my last day working on the diorama project

Another full busy day, this time as a 'miniature wrangler', helping to move the figures around Weta Workshop to the team of volunteers that were airbrushing dust on the boots and lower legs. Then organising the figures by pose and then starting to organise the Turks into companies of 180 figures...

On the way home with one of the other 'miniature wranglers' we estimated that each painted figure was handled at least 6 times, more if it needed touch ups or 'normalisation', before being ready to go on the diorama - 30,000 touches  :o

A quote from Alan Perry about their reaction summed it up for the volunteers as well, "This project is a dream come true"

As a teenager I was fortunate to get to know a New Zealand World War I veteran, Mr Lawrence. He was in Egypt but was ill at the time of the Gallipoli landings and after recuperating was assigned to looking after the horses left in Egypt by the Kiwis. He went on to fight in Sinai and Palestine but felt that he had let his mates down by not fighting at Gallipoli.

In part I have done this project to remember Mr Lawrence

Heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives!
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies and Mehmets to us
where they lie side by side here in this country of ours.
You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears;
your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace.
After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, 1934

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
For the Fallen, Laurence Binyon, 1914

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

What a sight: WOW! :o

The poem was a nice touch too.  Given what we do, it's nice to see the level of respect paid to the people involved in those conflicts (on this forum anyway). :)

Announcement: Gallipoli diorama to open on Anzac Day

The New Zealand Room, which includes our diorama of Chunuk Bair, will open next weekend on Anzac Day (25 April) so that it has significance to it.
