Hello gentlemen

I'd like some winter trees, not with snow, only "dead" trees :

Any idea ?

( and I want to turn some of them to "summer trees after a bombing", sort of WWI landscape, as it also happened during WW2, in Normandy for example, when the US use heavy artillery )

thanks..

Leman

Bruce Weigle produced winter trees using twisted strands of wire.
The artist formerly known as Dour Puritan!

I can't remember where I got it from -possibly Wilko or B & Q or similar but the packs of florists wire are just the ticket for these. It's similar to 3 amp fuse wire in thickness and is very easy to bend quite a few strands at a time for the bole of the tree leaving enough for the branches. Cover it with filler and Robert is most definitely your sister's brother. Or, of course you could always scout the countryside for suitable twigs or find someone trimming their garden hedge.

I have a load of plastic, for want of a better word,  you twist the branches into whatever shape you wish...the idea is you cover them in clump foliage, but if you left them bare then that might work. Back in 5 off to see if I can find one to photograph.
Sometimes I wonder - why is that frisbee geting bigger - and then it hits me!

Flatpack
And twisted...

This was done when it was very cold, so not brilliant. This is the 100mm version...part painted Egyptians for scale. I have about 50 of different sizes and could only find one. The come with a simple base too.

I found it a bit too large for my games.  :-\
And I want to avoid twisted wires : I tried once, and was not satisfied

Thank you

Maenoferren

No worries, they do a smaller version though which works well with 10mm

You want to get yourself some Sea Foam.

It'll look perfect as 10mm leafless trees.

It's worth searching online/eBay for 'Sea Foam Railway Modelling' to see what you can find. It's also called Sea Moss - by me on my Blog! I was lucky to acquire a very cheap lifetime's supply 2nd hand on eBay. It's undeniably delicate but if it's the look you're after, there's nothing to beat it. If you're using the stuff as it is, I wouldn't have any problem just sticking it on a base spray-painted or left raw. Any damage can be simply replaced with another piece. If you spend lots of time adding foliage, it's an idea for gaming to stand one up against a more robust tree model - as I have done here: http://www.michaelscott.name/1809/1809blogpost148.htm

The plant is called Teloxys aristata 'Sea Foam' (Tumbleweed, Sea Foam, Seafoam Moss).

If you want to grow your own, £1.95 will buy you a packet of seeds!

Another new line for MiniBits, perhaps!

Thank you  for the "Teloxys aristata" (https://www.google.fr/#q=Teloxys+aristata )

It was difficult to find "sea foam" in french, as it translated to "écume de mer" , which can be :
this :  :-\

or this :  :-\   :-\

I may try to grow some, if my cat doesn't eat them !
I will also look at Thym and Romarin.
