Agreed. At Custozza, Mollinary and I had a heck of a job finding one of the (very few) memorials since there were a lot of trees on the ridge in question. In the end we just headed for the slight rise at one end of the ridge and there it was.

Which, curiously, was not where it seemed to be using Google earth the night before!  Fortunately, Holdfast's military coup d'oeuil conquered where technology failed!   :-\

I seem to remember that being translated as "cup of oil" back in my schooldays.

Cameronian,

That is a very special looking game - the very small trees really give an impression
of a forest (rather than the usual 'Ent family on a daytrip').   The layered effect
also works well.

Excellnt stuff and a real inspiration.

Thanks Phil, bit of an experiment.
Don't buy your daughters a pony, buy them heroin instead, its cheaper and ultimately less addictive.

Leman

It's worked very well and shows up the main features of the battlefield very clearly, which is important in a demo game.

Even won a prize, woo hoo; good for LOS, movement, firing over etc, no arguments.

Sorry, no wargame on the planet was ever run without at least one argument.  ;)

Also recall that GFR Henderson wrote about Woerth in one of the two book(lets) that he wrote on the FPW, with shedloads of statistics. It is one of the few contemporary works in English, so is very accessible. Its published by Helion.

With a couple of near  contemporary sketches of the battlefield - very useful for dressing the table.
