Anyone have a picture that shows the difference between vv2 M113 full track and VV3 M113 ACAV?   I'm guessing the ACAV has a gun mount on the roof but i'm not sure  :-\

toxicpixie

In terms of the "real world" look the ACAV has the kind of "bucket" turret with a .50 cal in in the middle-ish of the M113 roof and usually two MMGs with gunshields on the roof hatch bit at the rear-sides, whilst the "normal" only gets one pintle mounted MG.

I don't have the Pendraken model of either though, but I assume it'll be correct!

This has both the ACAV and vanilla versions.  Sorry not that close but may help

As the guys have stated above .50 cal in turret and 2 x M60's with shields. The model is a right beast. Currently working on painting up a company of them.

Ok thanks all!

I found a pic while searching the forum too, so that confirms that this is the ACAV version:

picture is by bigjackmac, nice work!

I was looking for something to drive my marines around for my 70ies/pulp zombie mashup, so this might be the one  :P

In that case it would be soft skin or LVTP, but not ever 113's, Marines didn't and dont have em.

It's '70's Zombies, so it's probably "National Marine Army Guard" rather than strict TOE and Field Manuals ;)

Sorry mixing up 2 projects there  :P I meant troops, the marines will go un the dropships (i'm going to double-purpose the zombies for pulp and sci-fi)  But still thanks for the info, as i am not well informed on the vietnam era stuff. So much to learn so little time.

Well that's possible too. I think in a zombie apocalypse, the TOE would go straigth out the window and it would just be a case of survival. If all law is gone , would you rather drive your mini cooper through the z's or that abandoned abrams that's standing on the corner of your street?  :P :P

toxicpixie

The mini, it's mostly repairable with a lump hammer and works on very small amounts of petrol!

You're no fun  ;D

toxicpixie

Seriously, Mini's are ace fun!

Albeit for values involving much less armour and gun than an Abrams ;)

NO THEY ARE NOT. Based on being in  a Cooper S driven by a semi-professional rally driver round bits of Liverpool which were still cobbled in the mid 70's.

Zombie flicks always ignore the fact that any zombie apocalypse can be avoided by an armoured company just driving around the city for a couple of hours.

S-fi always seems to neglect armour. Starship troopers really bugged* me. They have spaceships that can traverse the galaxy but the best they can give their troops on the ground is a rifle and a pair of boots.

Have you seen the 3rd starship troopers movie? The stuff at the end is what you are talking about.
