Teutogen guard, I really like this reference!

Good work Fred.

Did kallistra fit well in height with GW or pendraken?

fred.

Kallistra - they are generally quite big!

You may know that Kallistra's original figures were designed to fit with the Pendraken Fantasy range - which is definitely more on the 12mm size, rather than Pendraken historicals which are more at the 10mm end of the size range.

But all 10mm figures are not made equal - for example GW WM Empire Knights are huge - and the Kallistra cavalry go well with them.

One of our group has a couple of Kallistra armies (Dogs of War and Dwarfs) and on the table they don't look out of place against GW or Pendraken figures.

Played around with taking photos a bit tonight

with some mixed results
Old stand of finished lizard riders - this has photoed quite well

but a group shot of the tribal lizard riders is still pretty dark

A MM dinosaur

This has come out fairly accurately

Most of the lizardmen are now pretty much painted. I'll give the newtmen a quick black wash, and might be able to get them based up tomorrow night. Then a few flyers and wizards to finish off.

Great stuff, Forbes !  :-bd

That's a bit odd, re the photo's.
The light source looks as though it's somehow more above and behind the figures, in that one.....Because of where the shadows are.

fred.

Thanks chaps.

Phil, you are probably right about the light source. With my painting board on the desk it's hard to move stuff back far enough to get the light above and in front. I really need a second light source, but then that just gets in the way when I'm not taking photos.

That the single figure ones came out well, kind of shows the low tolerances on this - a few cm further forwards or back and the lighting suffers. I'm also surprised at how washed out the blue background is in the close up shots compared with the long shot ( which looks pretty accurate for colour).

The Jay Adan you tube channel has lots of interesting tips for taking photos
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

It's a total swine if there's not enough room on the table !

YEARS ago, I used 3 table lamps (one each side at around 45 degrees to the subject(s) ) and a stronger light above, to knock out as much of the shading as possible) a colour correction filter, plus a tripod, because the exposures ended up being relatively lengthy.

That worked quite well....But I wouldn't have time (or room) to keep setting that up and then taking it down, nowadays.
I've got to have more of a play with the ring flash for the SLR.....That should give decent results and be pretty quick.

I guess you needed loads more room back then to store all the equipment you would need to make the silver nitrate plates

Based up most of the lizardmen that I have been painting recently, and a bunch of GW Salamanders that I had painted a while ago, but hadn't based for some strange reason.

those raptor/cold ones have a beautiful intense blue.

Looking good

Techno

Very nice indeed, Forbes ! 8)

Are the 'wossnames' that the lizardmen are mounted on different colours ?
I see those as being a rich blue, for the 5 at the front....Purple for the ones at the back.
A trick of the light, or my eyes playing silly b*ggers ?

Thanks chaps

Phil, the Lizardmen  are riding bigger lizards. Yes they are two colours the smaller ones at the front are blue, they were sprayed blue, and given a dark blue wash.

The larger ones are from the tribal Lizardmen range and are purple.

After a few months ( there always seems to be a gap in the middle of my painting diary threads  :o  ) I've got back to some 10mm stuff.

Over the summer I was a bit distracted with some 28mm plastics, Frostgrave and Saga Crusaders - which were fun to build, but less fun to paint.

So this weekend I actually put some effort into finishing off some 10mm figures. Both some ones painted earlier in the year, plus some more recent purchases.

First up, some Late Era Roman Ballistae - some light conversions of the various light infantry into crews

Some non-Pendraken GW Tuetegon Guards, and Kallistra light cavalry

And some Dwarves for Warband

I think with these I can just about field a Dwarven force from the various figures I already had.
