As I am almost done with my 1877 Russian division, I am prepping for the next long project in my newfound love of 10mm (beyond side projects like 1866 Danes and Austrians, or some re-basing for warmaster).

I have decided that my next 10mm project will be building the forces and indeed maybe the terrain for the Altar of Freedom model of The Battle of Gaine's Mill.

My intention is to use 10mm Pendraken miniatures and my condensed model of reality will essentially have brigades represented by the regiments in that brigade that rendered the most exceptional service (if there is such).

I would like to ask for three things for help

1) A good read on the battle. If it is available in Kindle it would be great.

2) Suggestions for exceptional units in the battle in each brigade?

3) The Altar of Freedom scenario map says that this is a 3x3 foot game, but in the final pages it says a 4x4. Which one is correct? (I am afraid I am that lacking in space)

I would normally go with the map in these sort of cases
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

The Brigade Fire and Fury Great Eastern Battles Scenario Book has a very reasonable version of the battle. The board is 6 feet by 5 feet at one inch to 60 yards.

Ok so after some research on my own I found this Kindle Available sources

The Richmond Campaign of 1862: The Peninsula and the Seven Days (Military Campaigns of the Civil War)

The Peninsula Campaign and the Necessity of Emancipation: African Americans and the Fight for Freedom (Civil War...

On The Confederate Left at Gaines's Mill

Are these any good?

I am not familiar with the 3 books you mention.
For my money I would try To the Gates of Richmond by Stephen W Sears as a modern telling of the story. It has almost 40 pages on Gaine's Mill with a pair of reasonable maps.

Thanks holdfast. Just saw that it is on Kindle.

I should add that it has a reasonable order of battle. (Although orders of battle are never as detailed as we would wish).
