Another random job lot from Ebay,
It's a lot of flattops, protected by something with BIG guns! Carriers painted in Midway colour scheme, since most didn't survive beyond that!
;)

That's no carrier!!!

And absolutely randomly, USS Gen John Pope, troop transport!

They are Fred, hence the wobbles, even when I used a ruler!  :'(

The long straight  lines are always going to be hard. I haven't been able to find a thin white marker pen, then only one I have found is at least 1.5 mm nib, which is really quite chunky. And it has a paint type ink, so not really like the nice black pens. Even decals would be a nightmare in that length and narrowness.  So I think it's a good outcome painting them in.

The stripy markings and the Japanese flag markings have come out very nice.

Use Sellotape as masking tape. But don't, whatever you do, leave it on until the line is completely dry. You risk the paint on the tape drying with the line and the whole thing peeling away when you take the tape off. And don't, in any case, leave the tape on for too long.

When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

Wont the sellotape lift the underlying paint ?

Not so long as the base coat is perfectly dry and you don't leave the Sellotape on for more than a few minutes. These ships were actually painted with enamels (which gives you some idea of how old they are), but I can't think it would be much different with acrylics.

Nice job!!

Top tip, if you lightly push your length of masking tape against your jeans, it will reduce the stickyness to a point where it sticks just enough to  mask your models , but not enough to lift away the paint under it!

Like those lots !

Nice work guys, quick question though wouldn't aircraft carrier models look better with planes modelled on the deck?
